How many views to replies?, its not just disco owners that cant be f-c--d with Big Al and his prehistoric car reviews.
Like alot of past cars rust was a problem, not just a land rover but - yes - nissan/ datsun, alfa romeo, mitsubishi and the lists goes on! Now is your Mits and ovlov full of rust, doubt if you would admit it anyway, prob no! - and neither are the newer LR's - so move with the times. My V6 D3 is so smooth and quiet, my mate who owns a brand new top of the range shogun LWB - actually had the guts to tell me it was twice as quiet and a smoother ride than his. If Big Al had actually spent some time researching off road capabilities he would find that D2 & 3's/ defenders are superior in every class - along with land cruiser and nissan patrol. hence they are the most trusted 4x4 used by MOD, agricultural and the commercial world. However as I type this I know I'm wasting my time, As usual he will reply with a blinkered short and pointless answer - followed by "i'm still not having one of them" yawn, yawn, yawn, and to those who follow his shallowness, - think if we were all like BIG Al the world would be a sad place, Grow up Al or move on to a Jerry Forum!

Car is 3 years ,33,000 miles. All covered by 5 year waranty. The problem was lack of communiciation between UK and french dealer.
Car was recoverd in 40mins from campsite to nearest hyundai dealer.
Dealer said defo auto gear box failure. Needed new box - covered by waranty. Called us a taxi said hed get parts - off we went back to site. We had 12 days to get it sorted.
By day 5 and numerous calls to uk customer service and local uk dealer - finally auth was given - all a bit late by now as we had arranged hire car, repaitriation and a night in a luxury eurocamp van, night before departure.
the issue is th eparts were in france. garage had time and more thanability to do job- they were fab. Hyundai uk did zero to sort the job.
They also did not understand that you can tput a tt away in wet and store for 2 weeks - so after watching weather we went for safe option to pack in the dry and spend night in van. paid by us.
our swift insurance arranged hire cars to move roof box ect up to our car in garage to pack it so we could take min luggage. we left site 3 days early and went home via dover as foot passangers. My husband and i spend days oon the phone working out packing, organising kids ect so it all went smoothly.
Hyundai said it was very unfortunate but if it had happended in the uk they would have lent cars sorted accomodaion ect ect, but not when out of uk. Even though the waranty is world wide etc and th esmall print is there - they just sya it mush have been very upsetting for us - but these things do happen!!!!
I dont think a grar box failure on a low milage fully serviced and cared for car is acceptable. I would just like them to say sorry and if anyone goes abroad again in a hyundai and has a problem it will be sorted.
Just awaiting retune should be 2moz. Dearler awaiting retun for repaire but i have lost all faith. We have towed it with tt over last 2 years but i dont imagine it will retun to france with us next year! just wondering what to buy next. I accept things go wrong but when a dealer shows you he has th ebits to fix the car - but he cant get someone in the uk to give the ok its a grim day.
Kids now have letters to send to managers to air their views.
Happy camping - good motoring - just beware of hyundai!

We have both a Rusty Rover (95 300tdi) and jap crap (99 shogun).......Shogun has had 2...yes 2....new cylinder heads in the last year (previous Shogun(a 95) also blew its head off on way down to Cornwall).Rusty(?) Rover....owned for 5 years.....never needed more than a bulb.hmmmmm.I do love my shogun, comfier ride, better spec, nicer looking (imo).Maybe we've just been unlucky....twice lol.But have been looking to trade her in for a TD5.
One opinion/observation of hubbys though (mechanic of 27 years, specialising in 4x4s) is try to avoid the very early TD5's.
Landcruisers are the mutts nuts....will have one when my numbers come up .
Your Shogun is a UK japcrap - the 2.5s had a habit of destroying their cylinder heads which was cured by a aftermarket head with rerouted cooling passages. 2.8s rarely blow their heads, in both cases though the majority of blown heads could have been avoided by paying more attention to the temperature gauge, major causes of over heating are blocked radiators (both inside and out) and water pump failure
Yep our present Shogun is a UK model (ie a Shogun not a Pajero),and it is the 2.8.They changed from 2.5 to 2.8 around 1994/5.So we've been unlucky enough to 2 x 2.8 Shoguns have heads blow . Incidentally,it had a new radiator and water pump on it shortly after we bought it,as hubby was trying to reassure me that another Shogun wouldn't blow its cylinder head (he was trying to shut me up lol).As for watching the temperature gauge,we were quite obsessive after our previous Shogun experience....absolutely no warning until it went.
I'm not having a go at Shoguns,I do really like them, but after our experience, won't be having another. Each to their own,as they say-I was only relaying our experience.
