Bedlam Andy's issue is the gross train weight which is quite low once you add bodies into the equation!  Read back through the posts and you will get the gist of it.

I think Bedlam's quote from whattowcar illustrates just how confusing it all is (the way Renault describe their tow weights, that is).  

I actually went to Yorkshire Caravans at Bawtry nr Doncaster and was told by a sales assistant that my car would "have no problems" towing a Bailey Ranger 550/6 which is even bigger!   They seemed totally unaware of the gross train weight issue and the fact that the maximum tow limit of 1300Kg quoted by Renault is for "driver only" with no passengers, luggage, spare wheel or towbar on the car. 

I've seen other Grand Scenics towing caravans which must be illegal.   It's a crazy situation.  

All praise to Couplands Caravans in Louth, Lincolnshire for their in depth knowledge on this.   What a fantastic dealer who actually advises that I shouldn't buy a caravan from them because my car isn't up to it!   I'll definitely be buying the van from them once we have a new car.

I like what i have at the moment Sterling Eccles 5 berth keep the rear double and buck bed made up all the time and use the shower cooker oven the lot (The other half cooked a pie in France from apples and blackburry pick at the campsite Had to buy the pastry)

Next one could be a twin axle if i get a bigger car?
