I don't believe either club is interested in the basic camper these days, more into behaving like big business into money classic example is how the c& cc hammered up the prices of all the forestry sites when they took over and how both clubs are moving into Statics and log cabins which in my personal opinion have nothing to do with the great hobby of camping.
I would say it's the market that has moved away from basic camping, to judge by the size and weight of new caravans - people seem to want a portable house with all the facilities on board that they have at home, which seems to us unnecessary - we'd rather have something tourable, and more suited to towing than a Portakabin.
Surely the first class toilet and shower blocks are a boon to basic campers? That's why we appreciate them, as we only have a simple washroom and toilet in our 'van.
Not saying they aren't just saying you can get cheaper and better in private sites now
As for being money minded, the clubs do have to survive in the commercial world - but they could be far more hard-nosed than they are, especially at peak times when commercial sites often won't let you book weekends only.
Both clubs are begining to go down this road the c&cc have beemn doing this for at least the last five years on their more popular sites
On the revenue-generating travel and insurance businesses, what possible problem can there be if the product or service does what it says on the tin, and makes a surplus for the club? Nobody has to use them if they don't want to. Assuming they do run at a surplus, then without them there would either be higher charges, or less money to put into site maintenance and improvements, and new sites.
Not complaining about this you have the choice as you say
I don't know about log cabins and statics - I'd certainly like to see more touring pitches, but I don't know how much bearing the cabins and the statics have on that.
Again on some of their more popular sites especially C&CC they are putting statics in because their is a higher profit margin and you can have more units per static license than you can tourer
I wasn't aware that the CCC had taken over Forestry Commission sites and 'hammered up the prices' but I don't suppose they got them for nothing, or without having to pay for improvements?
The whole point originally of the forest sites was to provide basic sites where people could enjoy nature and learn about it without impacting to much on the forest eco systems there have been very little improvements to any sites yet but prices have trebled already
PS do a search on here for forest sites this has already had at least to topics running on this very subject
