Well said. But unfortunately everyone is desparate to be seen as PC so the majority of people go along with whatever issue they happen to get wound up about next...

Personally I think they should ban flat caps pressed against windscreens (or should that be the people under them)

Middle lane huggers on motorways should have their licences taken off them. Many a time I have had to flash them to more over but you just get obcenities from them. They eventually pull over you pass them and they return back to the middle lane. Why do they do that???

I drive an ever so little 4X4! - ( Well a 2l petrol vitara) I have it serviced regulary, rarely drive on my own, drive steadily, do not tailgate etc etc etc etc.

However, when I follow the old buses running around here in the lake district ( especially the 1960's type...for tourists) I an gassed through my fan from black smoke, polluting the environment far more than ever my vitara  could...and they receive business aloowances to help them keep running!!!!!!!

...how mad can things get?

If they manage to get all 4x4s of the road, what will happen to the 100,000's of people that work in those businesses? They will go on the dole.

Where will the government get the money they lose from 4x4s taxes, fuel, etc.

I suppose it would be unthinkable that all other cars would have the taxes put up on them, and fuel would once again go up.

Don't forget that motorhomes could be next, or Jaguars, or even mondeos.

 Les

A vehicle is only as safe as the person driving it.

I don't think taxationis always fair.  I do feel that their should be further driving tests for different vehicle types.  You can pass your driving test in a little hatchback with a little engine and then immediately progress to driving large or fast vehicles.  How many people who tow have ever tried a driving test for towing?  Is there such a test?

If you pass your test on a small motorbike (under 125) you can only ride motorbikes up to a certain size.  Some drivers pass their test and spend the rest of their driving lives avoiding reversing.  They can still go out and buy large vehicles which they proceed to drive down the middle of the road and take up two parking spaces.

I, myself along with others may agree that " a heavy goods vehicle or public transport vehicle " produces more pollutant per mile than ANY 4x4 on the road so why dont these "do gooders" give the HGV or PSV  people such a hard time. After all dont these vehicles have LARGER engines thus producing MORE pollutant.

Let me think now....psv's carry lots of people therefore in theory reducing the numbers of vehicles on the road....and hgv's bring us all the things we need to live our life...so we need them, on the other hand, all the suburban mums running around in their X5's and range rovers picking junior up from school when a micra would do the same job...we dont need!!

I can understand someone pulling a HUGE caravan might require the power and weight of these things or for that matter a working farmer or someone living in the wilds of Scotland or Wales, but someone in kent who tows a 14' 2 berth to cornwall for two weeks every july has no need for one.

what rubbish - why cant more freight go by rail.
also on th esubject of 4*4 vehicles and the so called chelsea tractors - i believe they should ban all mums taxis and all kids should walk or take a bus to school to school - unless they live in a rural area.

i have a freelander td4 - its more economical than a lot of petrol cars on the road.

The shops still have to get the food from the rail station, which would surely cause more congestion around the railway station.
