Chatterdog, the car I'm learning in is the latest model Renault Clio. I don't know about anywhere else in the country but round here most instructors seem to use small-ish cars, the Nissan Micra seems to be the most popular. I was talking to my instructor the other day about doing the Pass Plus course once I pass my test - I don't know about other instructors but this one gives you the first Pass Plus lesson in the driving school car then all the other lessons are in your own vehicle. I feel quite pleased about that as at least it will help me in my transition from small-ish car to large people carrier. In fact that's one of the things I'm looking forward to - (note to self - must pass test soon!) lol

Hi Tigermouse. Once you have passed your test and got the towbar on your people carrier and a bit of time to get used to driving it solo then I can highly recommend the CC towing course. You use your own vehicle to tow the van they provide and its well worth the money. Go for it.

In readin this subject posts I notice that all the fears the ladies have are jsut the same as what we men have (but obviously dont admit it) going down a dead end is got to be everyone nightmare.

reversing in to tight spots can be equally disturbing but if you do it wrong pull forward and have another go eventually youll get there

lets face it in this day and age ladies ride motorbikes drive cars tractors vans busses lorries and even fly planes so why carnt you pull a caravan?

Hello fellow Aberdonian, thank god there are some men like you (my OH is also not a d_ _ _ h_ _ d otherwise he'd not be my OH) - I see crap drivers all the time, male & female, but these women driver `jokes' do get SOOOOOO tiresome.

I don't tow yet - can't even drive! - but I'm working on it.

When me and OH split up three months ago (he wanted it, not me) we had only had the caravan 12 months. We had put so much work into refurbishing it when we got it and we'd only used it four weekends - I really love that little 'van so I wasn't ready to give it up after so short a time, but unless I take action I'll never go anywhere in it again. I'm now taking driving lessons, and once I've passed my test I'll clock up some driving miles and a bit of experience then book on a caravan towing course.

I must admit that the whole concept of driving lessons, theory and practical tests, driving my own (large) vehicle and eventually towing a 'van is a bit daunting, but reading through the posts on here is giving me the courage to see this through. So hopefully in the not-too-distant future there will be another lady tower on UKCS!

You go for it girl. Patrice & Smutty nutty (or is it nutty?) & many other posts should inspire you. You obviously have guts & determination. When I was still taking lessons (over 20 yrs ago-yikes) even though I loved driving & was told I was `a natural' I was very lacking in self confidence, & was POO-ING myself worrying about having to drive alone with no L plates if I passed my test! However I forced myself to get in a car (was lucky to have one at my disposal I know) & go off myself right after passing. Shook constantly but didn't hit anything, & it got less scary each time. Soon your confidence grows. Like most things, gets easier the more you do it. Driving actually helped me overcome my lack of confidence - so did leaving my ex.. !

Ive towed our trailor tent and then 3 different caravans, over the last 24 years, and I love it. In fact I probably have more spacial awareness than hubby. We have towed throghout England and Wales and also on the continent.

If you use your common sense , and stick to the rules its a piece of cake. I have towed with a thirteen seater, and then a 4x4 RVR and now a Warrior, which is the best by far. The funniest thing is that when we arrive at a site and I am towing (we do share, on long journeys) , because I am blonde, and the oncoming motorists notice this, you can see the whites of their eyes in abject fear. Its hilarious!!

Well it makes me chuckle anyway.!

Actually Smutty Nutty the Warrior does belong to me and not hubby. The last time he reversed it beside the caravan he wanged into a flag pole. To be fair though, he drives a Punto on a daily basis, which is of course much smaller. I must get some parking sensors for the back of the Warrior, it would make life a bit easier. Most parking spaces are not long enough.
