"Mark... lets hope your parents don't buy you a van as a suprise!!!!!!!!! " - They already offered us their first of three vans they bought last year, a 2 berth 1992 Elddis Earl.
Nice, but a bit small!
Their last van when I was a kid was a 4 berth 1987 Knaus Sudwind, much better in size and comfort. Pity they sold it in 1995.
We even got them to baby sit while we went off to order it... told them we had to go to Next. ;-)

Ours is ready for collection!
Sorry, missed your post earlier. That's brilliant so when are picking her up?
I don't know!! I didn't want to get her today with all 3 kiddies with us, and N is back at work on Monday after 2 weeks off (typical!). I suggested I fetched her myself, but he's going to try to wangle an afternoon off next week instead. If he hasn't by Friday he might come home to a surprise! The dealer is only half an hour away so if I went there straight after school run in the morning I'm sure I could be back with her at least locked up outside in time to do the school run again in the afternoon even with having J with me...
Just a quick question..... has anybody replaced ther table at the front of the van?? I know you can replace it with the drawers but i'm fancying replacing it with seating. I was wondering if anybody had done so or those of you with this van already can you give me pros & cons, thanks
Avctaylor - have you had a caravan before? Even if you have it still takes at least an hour for the dealer to go through everything so a little one running around could be distracting. But if you are going to have to take little one with you when you pick her up then go for it and suprise your oh and other kids lol. Bet he's secretly hoping you will lol
Grumbleflick - we haven't on the GT60 because i like the little coffee table lol but we did on our very 1st 2 berth caravan. Well dh did lol. He just used some thick ply wood and we put cushions on top but i'd not want to do that with a brand new 'van lol. I thought that that was an option like the drawers when you are buying? Have a word with your dealer to see how much they charge and what materials they would use?
No, we've not had a caravan before so I knew I'd be pushing things to collect it by myself but if need be I'd do it! Little one isn't even rolling over yet though so at least he wouldn't be running around ;-)
hiya, i don't mean doing the conversion ourselves. Its an optional extra done before i get it. It cost £125, i looked into it as i liked the idea of more front seating. (i prefer L-shaped fronts, the long front seats are the only thing i dunt like about caravans) so the wrap around seating would be ideal. OH has other ideas though, hes wondering where he'd put his beer!!!
Avctaylor - i know you've told me the ages of your little ones before but i couldn't remember lol
So are you going to pick her up yourself or has you oh got the time off work?
Grumbleflick - sorry i read you wrong lol. If you want it then i'd get it done now if that is the layout you like. When i walked into the GT60 it was almost exactly what i wanted. We wanted an outside plug socket so had the dealer put one in. I would have liked to have heating in the bedroom but we'll work something out. I didn't want a chest of drawers in the living room or wraparound seating but if i had wanted them i'd have had them put in because i'd hate to get a 'van that had something missing that i really wanted. If you asked i'm sure your dealer would leave the little coffee table there as its not going to interfere with the wraparound seating and there is room on the window sill for a coffee cup lol.
J - they're 0,5 & 6. oh is off on Monday so we're delaying picking it up til then. Shame really, but the most sensible option and it isn't as if we can get away this weekend anyway...
ooh mark i'm excited for you!!! And excited to know what there reactions going to be. Ashwel, hope you don't mind me asking but what did they charge for the extra plug? I'm still waiting on a price to put heating in the back but if its as expensive as you been quoted it looks like our little fan heater will be joining us.
Hand over was about 2 hours, plus the air heater wasn't starting, a metal tube had become stuck in between the gas valve, so it wasn't fully depressing. Workshop took about 30mins to find and fix that one. (I couldn't believe how many loose screws, bags, I've found in cupboards etc)
The tow home was fun, never towed something so heavy before. I felt like I was towing with a fiesta!
and for anyone thinking twice about a motor mover! GET ONE! I'm ordering ours tomorrow, the van weighs a tonne!!! Couldn't get it up the dropped curb pushing it, had to get three people to help. No room for the car to swing around!
OOOh Mark can't wait to hear what everyone's reaction was!!! So you've obviously managed to save your £1000 needed to buy the 'van but i've just got ask is that the price Oliver thinks it must cost or what you actually needed to save lol? Have your parents seen it yet? With a 'van that size you really do need a motor mover. We thought our Avondale was long and heavy but compared to our "Honey" she was nothing lol. Motor movers are just like a big kids toy, we love moving our 'van now. Luckily i'm a good wife and always let dh have a go 1st lol
Sorry Avctaylor i knew you had 3 but not what ages they were lol. I'll still forget though as i am terrible :( But not long till Monday...
Grumbley the dealer threw the plug in with the extra's. We had been quoted from £90 - £150 at the other dealers. So was pleased with the saving there.
It's my birthday in Feb and dh has the weekend after it off so hopefully we will be going away then. As it will only be for the weekend then i'm thinking we might go to Grafham Water as that's only about an hours drive from home. And i'm hoping it will be a site we fall in love with as its not too far away for weekends and has a swimming pool. Our new porch awning should have arrived by then so we can try that out :)
