Tried to get onto site first thing as did many others and gave up after 2 hours - impossible! Phones unanswered as well.

At 4 pm however site had settled down and I got logged in no problem so went to book Braithwaite Fold site at Windermere for a week in June next year. Every single blinking non awning pitch was fully booked right through May, June July, ad infinitum!!! What the heck is going on here!

The problem as I see it is that some people use the fact that the Caravan Club don't charge a deposit like the CCC, hence they block-book a longer stay period instead of maybe a week or just a few days - nearer the date when their plans are finalised or weather reports handy, you simply amend your booking at no cost and with no penalty - thats no problem!

If we all started doing that then you will never know what the "true" site availabiliy is. I know it sounds crazy but maybe there is some benefit in the CCC policy of asking for either £25 or 25% of the booking fee after all. I left that club last year for that reason but maybe it is the right way to go to sort this problem out with the CC.  For a week in June it would mean laying out £25 now which when added to other bookings soon mounts up to a tidy sum but at least you get a fair crack of the whip so to speak when booking.

However saying that, there were still some dates available for the "with awning pitches" so I just booked one of these instead. I will take my chance in getting a cheapo awning on ebay or elsewhere.

The C.C used to take deposits when I first joined and should they re-introduce this policy I would happily stump up £25 per booking like the C&CC charge .
It may deter some from making multiple booking because of the cost , however there are just as many who would cough up the necessary money to ensure they have there 10+ bookings at the beginning of the year so introducing a deposit system will not make any difference as the problem will still persist and would only serve to alienate the less affluent members

I see on another forum someone quite proud of the fact that they have just made 19 separate bookings for next year.

Isn't it time that the CC limited the number that can be made?

i dont think the amount of bookings you make is a problem.the problem arises when they dont show up to a booking without ringing to cancel in advance. members who fail to show without giving notice should be made to pay a deposit on future bookings or even be charged for the pitch they didnt use !! .why penalise everyone else for another members lack of respect ?

I wouldn't get an awning KevinBFG, not if you don't need one. It's not that you didn't try to get a non-awning pitch.Just show up without one, many others do not bother. Especially at Rowntree Park. The number of motorhomes in August which occupied a large pitch and we struggled to find one for an awning and car just showed that many don't seem to care. The ' I'm all right Jack' attitude is becoming more prevalent these days, which is a pity.

To be fair the number of non-awning pitches (which of course cost less) is very limited in the CC. It drives my outlaws bonkers as they don't have an awning but have to get the slightly more expensive pitch anyway. The fact they are tight has nothing to do with this!

The fact that there are NO specific non awning pitches at Braithwaite Fold is what is going on thats why they are all showing as Unavailable !!!

I think it should be a mixture of the two. Limit the amount of forward bookings that can be made, and penalise members who don't cancel in advance.

With the increasing membership numbers, people are not going to tolerate a system that allows one member to make 19+ bookings whilst other members can't even book one of their choice.

i reckon you could go online now and make 19 bookings.we were in no rush to book anything and waited until yesterday evening and booked a couple of weekends at popular sites,(chatsworth and rowntree park) no problem at all.it is a bit of a lottery but theres enough pitches to go round.everyone pays their fees so everyone has the right to book as many trips as they like.like ive said, its only an issue when they dont turn up and another member loses the chance of getting a pitch.that is plain WRONG !

Basically other than Xmas Rowntree is now booked for all weekends. Methinks they could have 2 Rowntree Parks and still fill them, at least at the weekend.

I thnk under any system some no shows are inevitable and some times it's a genuine emergency. I was told last year by a warden that the CC had a three striikes and you are out policy though I've not seen that set out anywhere.

This has been documented in the Club magazine and they will also mention this if you write to the Club on the issue. They don't go into any detail on numbers which is a pity. As an aside its late cancellations which are a bigger problem because it is allowed to cancel at the last minute and could have the same affect as a no show in that it could deny someone a pitch. I think they are now starting to monitor cancellations as they now ask for a reason when you cancel. The next stage could well be writing to members making a lot of last minute cancellations and asking why!

I managed to get mine booked for next year.

We both work in schools and have to take school holidays so don't have much choice really when to go.
