Yes. I am a teacher. I am not allowed time off.Think Mr Chile (retired, lucky thing) has booked Pembrey, but no confirmation email received and site seems to have crashed now. Grrr.
------------- Keep calm and go camping....

I can't imagine taking a day out of my precious holiday allowance to book sites, just think it would be fairer if it were either earlier, or at a weekend. I do wonder though if the CC prefer having it's sites full of retired people rather than working families with children hence the 9am midweek start -but then I'm a cynical old bird.

As this is our first full year with the van / CC I was keen to try and get the dates we wanted. Thankfully our little one is not at school yet so we could avoid the main holiday periods but did want to go away over the April and June BH weekends.
I logged on at 7am and wanted till 9am. From 9am I was constantly hitting the "book" button but got no-where and was starting to get a bit fed up when at around 9.45am I suddenly got in and managed in 10 minutes to book all 6 of our weeks away !
The only thing I couldn't get was a service pitch at Seacroft, which we liked the idea of, as these were all already booked.......I have no idea how some people got on so early as we had tried from 9am on the dot and were clicking every few seconds!
So thankfully it wasn't as bad as I had first feared although I had planned a reserve site for each area we were looking to stay at but didn't need in the end..
So we now have booked:
April BH - Moreton in Marsh (6 nights)
April - New Forest Centenary Site (6 nights)
June BH - Seacroft (8 nights)
July - Hillhead (10 nights)
Sep - Haycroft (10 nights)
Sep - Longleat (7 nights)
I do still think that it is a bit crazy for the CC to release these all on the same day and think it would be much easier to manage if they did things on a rolling basis, i.e you can book up to 12 months in advance from today's date. This would then spread out the peak demands on the system (i.e school holidays and BH weekends) and should make it easier to get on and book.
However their system seemed to work well and I can't complain as we got the sites and dates we wanted.....and I checked later today and there was still lots of availability! It would appear that this was a bit improvement from 2010 so at least they have listened and made some positive changes.

I'm not going to go on about this, but personally I find it sad that I am expected to join in with a mad rush to book sites the second they become available. Apart from the fact that working people don't have time for this, not everyone wants to book 6 months or more in advance - I thought part of the appeal of caravanning was supposed to be the ability to just 'get up and go' at short notice. However, I've been in this game long enough (10 years with a motorhome and now a caravan) to know I am in a minority in this view.
One certainly shouldn't be expected to take a day off work just to book a caravan site!
Personally I much prefer the C&CC's policy of taking deposits for bookings, which minimises the block booking of multiple sites months in advance. I also tend to feel more welcomed at C&CC sites as a 'younger' person than at CC sites. I would also prefer it if CC sites were continuously available for booking for the next 6 months, say, rather than all the pitches coming available at once, hence the mad rush.
Sorry for the rant. I'm not having a dig at individuals booking sites long in advance, but rather at the CC's booking policy in general. Each to their own - I am in the CC because there are certain members only sites that I really like, so I'll just have to find time away from the bank holidays to visit them.
Enjoy your holidays, everyone.
