I can actually see some of the (flawed) argument on the slip road one. Think about approaching an acute junction where the main road you are to join is on your right shoulder, and then turning left at the junction. You wouldn't indicate right unless turning right.

Difference is on slip road is you don't have option to legally turn tight at end of slip road where the give way part is so you indicate right merely to indicate you are wishing to join the main carriage way

You could argue that indicating on a slip road is totally pointless lets face it where else are you going to go anyway?

I think we all know it is wrong to stop on a motorway. My question is when going the slip road to join a motorway what can yo do if the inside or 2nd lane is busy and trafiicis virtualy nose to tail. How can you do any thing else but stop on the slip road untill a suitable time to speed up and join it.

One thing that always puzzles me. Why do drivers indicate Right on a motorway slip road? When joining a motorway it is actually a LEFT turn

Why do private hire drivers think they can stop in the middle of the road?

Why do private hire drivers think they can double park?

Wy do private hire drivers think that speed limits dont apply to them?

Why do private hire drivers ignore traffic lights?
I agree with your first point Andy. I've often wondered this myself but still indicate right!!

Because it is not a left turn, it is a lane change to the right?

I'm afraid good old courtesy of the road is long gone nowadays Phil. No one seems to care about anyone else any more, they all want to be in front & expect everyone else to get out of thier way.

us bus drivers face the same thing almost on a daily basis, normal remedy for me is ,hand brake on, engine off, feet on dash, newspaper out and sit back ( we're not allowed to leave the bus), same effect as you though Tentz, they all back up eventually

although i do try to avoid getting into those situation's to begin with, i get paid the same whether i'm running on time or whether i'm late and life really is too short for such un-necssary confrontations  17

I too been an ex bus driver have many a time been sat reading the newspaper cos some inconsiderate driver has decided they would try make me reverse my bus with passengers on huh dont think so lol

even had a stand off with the old mr pc plod at one point he even came upto the bus and started shouting and waving his arms about untill i kindly reminded him he was in the wrong driving the wrong way down an one way street without his blue lights on AND the bus was fitted with recording cctv he soon got back into his car turned around and sped up the street to get flashed by an speed camera :) ooops think he may o been slightly unimpressed that he had been recorded breaking the law and i wernt goin to move(because he had blocked the road) and let him passed :)

must admit though some people just see the car and think right im pulling out now then suddenly see your trailer tent behind and jam the brakes on as if its your fault your towint a trailer and they arnt looking at the road ahead :/

Not meaning to be provocative Kev (as I appreciate that reversing a bus is not a straight forward pursuit) but did you not think that the poor bobbie was blue lighting it to a potentially very serious incident where someone needed him ASAP and was simply choosing the fastest route?

Just a thought.

Not to stray too far off topic though but being fairly new to caravan towing has totally opened my eyes to crazy drivers! My favourite ones (that scare me the most!) are those that dither joining roads with short slip roads in busy traffic......speeding up, slowing down, then at the last minute speed up again and shoot out right in front of you. Also those crazy people who take mad risks to get past you only to turn off the road completely 90 seconds later?? Love it

If the bobbie had of put his blue lights on i would of give way and allowed him to drive the wrong way up a one way street but seeing as he never had them nor the siren's on( and the fact i had done a 7 hour shift so was rather tired nd ready for home) i stood my ground as he knew i wernt to be bullied by his uniform and the fact that he was a police officer.
I must agree with you though if he had of said im in a rush and need you to move i probably would of done but he didnt.

Some of the views on here scare me.

Personally i think after passing your car test you should then be taken to the HGV test centre and given the task of driving one.

See what damage they do to a car and still keep going undamaged. How long it takes to stop. So make them think twice when overtaking on a narrow road or overtake and brake 30ft before the stop line.

Slowing down to give way to people joining the motorway is a nightmare. Im not talking about just lifting off to give them a bit of room but actually braking to a stop sometimes.

I have seen that happen. Drive on the motorway got slower to give way. Car on sliproad didnt judge the speed and traffic so got slower and slower.
Until both of them actually stopped.

How that never caused a pileup was down to luck and the following drivers being more alert than this idiot.

If you need to lift off more than a couple of seconds to let them join then don't. DO NOT brake or stop.

I usually move into the middle lane when approaching a junction. It's no hardship to me and it makes it easier for trafic joining
