From T Wood

Elddis Crusader 2013 model
After a very frustrating time trying to make contact with Glossop Caravans about many problems, they have finally made contact with us after they received a more demanding letter from us, pointing out more of our intentions and the problems that are still there with the caravan and that after Elddis themselves tried to rectify the Main problems with the roof at one of there recommended service centres which did not work.
So deep joy when Glossops got in touch by phone, telling us that they wanted to put things right and not loose our custom, they offerd me a trade in on one of there show models from the NEC show, answer from me no thank you, then he advised me if I was going down the legall route to get on with it, so here we go down that route.

I presume that by offering a trade in they were asking you to fork out more money and not a like for like swap.

Hi pete-fen
Yes you are right and they thought they were doing me a big favour and did not understand my reasoning when I turned them down.

Not really a caravan issue BUT shows the incredibly bad customer service from Glossop

Bought a new Swift Escape 696 from them in April 2014. The hand over was a joke, because of delays in the workshop it was delayed by 4 hours.

When we finally got the van they where closing. During the hand over I noticed the battery box had a split in it where the mains lead passes into it, so I arranged for them to order a new one and we would arrange to get it fitted.

When I got the van home we noticed that a sofa infill cushion was missing, the windows wouldn't open because they where stuck to the rubber and the front windscreen blind was not shutting as it was catching on the rear view mirror.

Clearly the pdi inspection hadn't happened. About a month later the door lock broke while we were away in it. We where left locked out the van late at night as we had left the keys in the van and closed the door. We had to spend the night on the floor of a friends caravan before we called green flag. Greenflag had to break in for us. I did try Fiat Camper van assist at first but Glossop somehow hadn't managed to register us properly with them.

Bearing in mind that was in April and its now October nothing has been done yet.

The infill cushion was ordered by Glossop and the first one arrived about 2 months ago and was the wrong one, a second one arrived and was the wrong one. Two weeks ago the third one arrived and was the wrong one....

The battery box that they originally ordered was ordered incorrectly and all the wrong bits where delivered to Glossop so they had to re order the battery box. However the door lock parts have now been correctly delivered along with another battery box.

So this Saturday it is going to their workshops for a week to have all the problems sorted. Only 7 months after the original purchase oh.... and we still don't have the elusive infill cushion yet.

We where told to bring it up early Saturday morning so that they could start on it early that morning. We got up at 05:30 and drove up the 101 miles in the van and a car then drove back.

Just had a call from Glossop they have the wrong battery box and the wrong door parts. This is Thursday and we are supposed to collect it this Saturday. Clearly they never started work on it last Saturday so we didn't have to get up at 05:30 in the morning and get it to them by 08:30 ..........

I've contacted Swift who tell me that Glossop put the order in for the bits so they must have known what they where ordering.. I think Not.

The replacement battery box is arriving on Monday - new door parts in 14 days....
So they still have our van and we are supposed to be going to France in two weeks in it.

Just as a footnote this is our 5th motorhome all the others where bought from another major dealership, and their service was excellent I wish I had got this one from them.....

The common fix for the cracked rear lower bodyshell panels is now an Elddis aproved purpose made capping, stuck on with the same mastic that holds the SoLid construction together, they no longer change the entire panel, ours went in for a service in July and came out the same day with these fitted, its a common problem with their latest caravans.

Also check along the top edge of your front locker lid for cracks, mainly in the ridge where they join the hinge fitting, another common fault, and one that we are awaiting a replacement for. Luckily though we have an excellent dealer, and they managed to spot this fault before we did.

I would have held out for a replacement caravan and nothing less. The caravan you bought was not fit for the purpose.
We were in exactly the same position as you( not with Glossop) and we eventually were given a replacement new van after thirteen months of hassle and lost holidays.

I am very pleased for you , I whent to the NEC to speak to elldis about my problems mainly the water retention on the roof, they tell me to tilt the caravan to the front to allow the water to run of, after speaking to the people that make the chassis on a twin axel caravan this is not recommend, so after a long conversation we didn't get any wear, as they say we garrentee the roofs for ten years against water ingress, and if we want to go down the leagall root then that is what we must do.

We are changing back to a caravan from a motorhome in a few months.
We won't be having an Elddis if that is the way they treat their customers.

From reading around the internet it would appear Glossop Caravans have a rather overinflated opinion of themselves and their brand image, they seem to feel as though the 'brand' carries cachet in a similar fashion to Audi or Rolex! That may be the case for some of us in the caravan fraternity but they feel it goes beyond this somehow, it’s a bit odd

I'm not sure why they feel this way as they simply come across as money chasers always after the next sale, once they have it that's an end of it for them. It seems from quite a few sources that customers are well looked after until they have that sale, this gives the impression they're a good company to deal with and as a result people return "time and time again".

However the test of a truly good company is after-sales, and it seems on that front they're pretty shocking...caveat emptor.

Well this thread has raised some discussion. My van has now returned from repair.Elddis contacted the chasis makers about the brakes and the rocking of the van when it was on the stabelisers. They sent technician who changed the brakes completely and fitted new rear stabelisers. They resolved rear cracking that is now invisible furniture and floor creaking seems resolved and new thermo coupling fitted to grill, new front window s3al fitted

Not been away yet to try everything but squeeling has stopped from wheels. Its been a long slog to get everything sorted out.

Crikey after reading all this - I wonder what happened to the OP's original Van - some poor buggar has probably bought it and not knowing its history.

Hi Janice, I was wondering where you have got this idea that Glossop Caravans have an over inflated opinion of themselves. I work at Glossop Caravans and what you are saying is not the image we want to be putting across, and if this is whats happening I would like to have a look myself as it may be something we need to address further.

Thanks

I guess she got the idea from reading this thread & other related threads on ukcs. These threads will have been started by the very small minority of caravan buyers whose new purchases have faults that are not quickly rectified. You know perfectly well how your business is run, if it works for you as it is then carry on as you are, you don't need 'feedback' from internet forums.
