in fairness if you spend 25K on a van you expect it to be water tight and damp free.

You will always get a fault somewhere on a new van or car, even a lorry, so in a way you expect that. But the stealers have a duty to make sure they put things right, and the qc at the factory have to up there game if Bailey or any other manufacturer are having the same feed back. Being a marine trained engneer (MN) every bolt i change or have to tighten gets took of and gets the copper slip treatment 17

Just got a letter from our dealer to say that the remaining parts for a warranty repair on our crappy one year old Bailey are now in stock. It has taken from March until now to get the parts.

5 MONTHS. This really is a disgrace on a current model caravan.

In contrast when I had an accident with my car, from the date of the accident, it took less than a week to get it back fully repaired, and resprayed. This included several replacement parts including a boot lid. At that time there were less than 2000 of these cars in the UK.

This is what i was saying about the stealers uping there game. I pulled the back end away on my coachman years ago when going out a steam rally the 110 carried on going and the back end of the caravan grounded, in back end back on the road in less than a month.

I'm still waiting for the fridge door parts. It's been about 2 months now. Yet I know they are in stock on the Bailey site and other suppliers. I'm seeing the dealer on Tuesday so will be giving them the ultimatum that they sort it out or I will and then invoice them.

That's exactly what I am telling you, appreciating your experience is unfortunate. The chance of buying two faulty vans from an brand is insignificant.

Sounds like a dealer issue. The fridges in Bailey vans are the same as any other make.

Hi Thats start by holding the stealer to account no matter what make it is, they are selling it. Start shouting to trading standers at you local council. Dont matter in my eyes if its a trailer tent, tent caravan, or motorhome. The more that complains the better in my view.

The main point to remember is there aren't that many faulty vans out there. Compared with how many are produced each year the problems reported here are insignificant to all except those who own them.

I would like to see where you get all those facts from.
I think only the dealers and manufacturers will know the true figures!

What you also have to remember is that not everyone who camps or caravans uses this or similar forums and possibly like yourself would not mention it on a forum anyway as you have said on a previous post!

If Bailey were that bad they would have gone out of business by now. As no one would buy another one of their 'vans if they had a bad experience with their previous - would they?

If the first was so bad why buy another one ?

I understand you've been very unlucky but that doesn't mean all Bailey vans are rubbish. There are thousands of happy owners for each unhappy one.

Just be pleased for everyone else.

Your brand new van leaks like a sieve so "just be pleased for everyone else" who's vans don't leak?

Of course that is how we would all react..not!

..... because the first van I bought was a Sterling (Swift). That too had damp after the first year, with most of one side replaced. Swift were appalling in their handling of this repair, which is why I'd never ever touch a Swift again. 3 years later the Stirling was a write-off, riddled with damp down both sides.

3 British caravans, all three with damp issues after one year. The French Trigano, however, was super. 5 years and no problems. Beautiful to tow, and well made. Sadly the current models did not have the features we would have liked in a new caravan.

Had hoped that Bailey Alu-Tec would at last provide a leak proof design. Obviously not.

The point I was making is you don't have to tar all Bailey and Swift caravans with your own experiences. Your comments would lead someone with little experience to believe they are all badly made which is simply not true.

Why not?

Swift were dreadful when my Stirling had a major damp problem after one year. OK, I might have got a lemon, but that does not excuse the dreadful Customer Service (or complete lack of) that I got directly from Swift.

My current van leaked. Poor workmanship and poor design. The butt join on the roof affects all Pursuit models, and may well affect all other models too. The severe rippling of the inner GRP skin at the front could and does affect all Bailey models, its the way they are designed and assembled.

Finally, having to wait 5 MONTHS for a replacement part for a current Bailey model is a disgrace.

We have just bought our second Bailey caravan,

The first was a 2004 Senator Wyoming, we loved this van, it was a fantastic van with a great layout. But at the last service damp was found and a quote for repair was received for £1400 so it convinced us to replace it.

On 1st August we collected out shiny new Unicorn Cartagena. What a lovely van.. So a week later we trundled off to a caravan park in south Wales. We pitched up and I lifted the bed to get the awning out, the bed fell to pieces. Ok teething problems expected. went to open a cupboard, the knob broke, found the lino in the kitchen had lifted and there is a problem with the floor too, the fridge also didn't work on 12v when we towed the van, So now the problems are mounting. slashed my hands on the heating radiators in the external lockers blood everywhere. The problems just keep coming. Anyway had a great afternoon and went to bed. next morning went in the bathroom to do my business as you do. shut the bathroom door, Sorry but how the hell do you sit on the toilet. I had to open the door put my right knee through the door then close the door against my leg. my knee is 8 inches into the bedroom and i'm sat on the toilet with my very unimpressed wife sat at the front of the van eating her breakfast. to say she was very unimpressed is an understatement.

So on returning home we contacted Bailey and Leisure sales to complain about the issues we had. dropped the van off on Monday for them to do the warranty work and look at the bathroom, Bailey said all their vans are like that now and nobody else has complained so it is not an issue. I am 6 foot 4 inches tall. Bailey brag about the head room, which is why i purchased the van, as i can walk front to back and not have to duck or dodge lights, then they give you a bathroom built for a midget. and tell you there is no9thing wrong with it. and also say i can not have it altered as it will void the warranty.

£23750.00 worth of van and the bathroom is useless. Gutted, annoyed and very fed up and will definitely never buy another Bailey. and will not return to leisure sales again either.

This was the caravan of our dreams, which has quickly become a nightmare.

Has anybody else got an issue with the toilet arrangement in a Cartagena ???
