I'm new to caravanning and i wanted to know if the poles go round the bend when pulling off caravan, surely they cant, or do you force the awning in the rail near the top of the caravn and slide it across.

SP

The best way to get it off the rail while the poles are in the bag is to open the awning rail up at the forward end, you only need to open about a 1" section as this will let you feed the bag from the rail.
I do this in winter, I make an opening 6" before the front locking barrel that keeps the bag in place then just slide it out and keep inside the van for winter storage.
If you look at your awning rail you can see that it is open in several places but not in any thats handy to remove a PDQ bag awning. It does not take much to open as the awning rail is a very soft alloy

took delivery of the 2007 version last week. we put it on the van ,  me and the missus ,on site at the weekend.

took about an hour to set it up, including a cup of tea.

its terrific. it was windy , no problem. the journey home along the motorway ,once again no problem. i watched it and it didnt move.

the only variations  from the norm we made was to unzip the sides before rolling it up for travel.  on site we colourcoded the poles to ease the next deploiment. a rub with vasaline eased putting the bag into the rail.

it looks good and we are well pleased.

I've probably said this before Ally.but better safe than sorry, invest in two storm poles for bad weather put one either side of awning inside from front sloping back down towards van and peg down. this will make your awning much more stable in winds! and give a little more peace of mind. we find this helps anyhow. and we had very bad wind & rain ealier this year whilst in Hereford you only need them up if you think it's a little rough, it doesn't take two mins

As for the bag being tight it will loosen with use just make sure you put your finger inside when zipping it across to stop material getting caught, oh and not sure if the bags still the same but if you have an outside light peg the bag up away from it  otherwise if light gets left on it will burn (happened to my cousin!)

Hi, we have had a PDQ for about 12 months and before our new Streling we had it on the side of our Avondale arrow and it didn't cause any problems with leaks. They are a great awning for weekend's but they are not a 2 minuite job to erect. If you want them to work well they need to be well pegged and you allways get wet when you get them out as the bag holds rain water, that is unless you punch holes in the bag for drainage.

These awning's shine is when it comes to putting them down, they are only 2 mins and when its wet that is a blessing, and Ive been told they don't rot, I would say it has been one of our better buys and I would recomend one to anyone.

Top tip make sure you use the guide ropes to pull it out

never mind , it will fill in a weekend going out to buy a new awning.

  • DON''T  I have had 2, the second a replacement for the original,
  •  water leaked in both  bags while zipped up stored, & when you let them down  free shower,
  •  Both ripped, second replacment, on the second day of use sides flap against caravan in the wind
  • storage bag hangs over door and awning light & in my case while up it welded it self to the hot light & melted the bag
  • When in the bag while towing . caused damage to side of caravan

  • Mine came from Towsure & they had others returned
  • In fact it was no surprise to them

I'm sorry guys, but after 2 years of putting up with my PDQ, its in an awful state; minor tears, rusty poles, sticking zips (and I take it down every time, so you cant blame the rain!)

It still seems to be poor value for money compared to e.g. Sunncamp products, in my opinion.

(and please dont reply telling me how wonderful your PDQ is, because, quite frankly, I dont give two hoots. It's my PDQ that is the pup.

Hi Jo, we recently bought (and are about to return) a Pyramid PDQ porch awning.  We have used it just once - it took alot longer to put up than 2 minutes, was heavy and difficult to roll back up into the bag and on just taking it off for the winter we've discovered that the awning is soaking and the red colour has run onto the cream.  We're now looking into alternatives and would welcome any suggestions.  It needs to be easy to put up - ideally by one person or with some minimal assistance, weatherproof!  and big enough for a table & chairs and 2 dogs!  Have been looking at Outdoor Revolution Porchlite or Magnum 260.  Has anyone had any experience of these or suggest any alternatives.  Thanks Babs

Yes, I've also finally given up on the PDC (think about it!).
Bought a proper (Isabella) porch awning second hand, one that won't tear so easily, won't flap, won't leak.

Meantime, "Free to good home, buyer collects ....."

We have just come back from Porthmadog and one of these pdq awnings seemed to come to grief.  I don't know if it was pegged down properly but it obviously looked to be in a bit of a state in the windy conditions.  I noticed there was a spacelite that seemed to survive alright and our cheap sunncamp was ok.

The next day the pdq was rolled up in its bag where it stayed.  I have always liked the idea of them.

We ended up buying a Compactalite awning and i have to say we are very pleased with it, has plenty of guys if you are worried if the wind gets up. Doesn't take long for the two of us to put it up.

Nice thing about it is you can get a table and 4 chairs inside with plenty of room left
