I would be more worried about seconhand residule values if i had bought a 2008 Avondale ,as the Caravan Company has bought all Avondale stock and are sellin brand new 2008 models with over £6000 of some models see here http://www.caravan-company.co.uk/specials.html which in turn will make seconhand Avondales depreciate massively

Thanks for that John. ( A wee bit obvious really )
Not much we can do about it, no point in worrying about it.
Name me any caravan dealer who can g/tee 100% they will still be trading in 3yrs ???. A local Nissan dealer was proclaiming how well he was doing some time ago, I drove past the other day and saw the showroom closed !!.

maybe john that might be the kick up the bum needed for all the other dealers to reduce there prices and be a bit more realistic of paying public,

we thought the list prices have gone down a tad on febs show

there was some vast discounts today, the wife loves playing money games with the dealers calculator ( she is allways right , and ofton faster which is funny )

it was scarey the amount of people trying to get vans on hp (black horse to name one ) and being turned down

Thanks for that reply Joe. As we live in North Yorks we usually use Frys to service our Avondale as they are our nearest Avondale dealer (or was) even though we got the van from Glossops. If they treat their own customers like that it doesn`t bode well for us that haven`t bought from them. Ironically we have always had good service from Frys and were thinking of getting our next van from them now I`m not so sure, our van is due a service in March think I`ll look elsewhere now, shame. Always found Shakeel (I think thats his name) very polite and approachable. Regarding the warranty Glossops have said they will honour the warranty (phew!) just a pain having a long round trip, they have always been good too and wouldn`t hesitate buying from Glossops again.
Pity there isn`t national ratings system for caravan dealers to help in choosing a van, respect to web sites like this.
Cheers
Steve

Hi Steve

Shakil is a very good salesman, and is incredibly helpful, until he's got your money.  Then he reverts to his usual blingy flash harry self, and couldn't give a monkeys about the customer.  We phoned him a couple of weeks after buying the van, and he said "remind me again, who are you!".  Now of course we don't expect him to remember every customer, but he spent long enough chasing us to close the deal, so we expected a bit more from him.

I would NEVER use Frys again.  Simon Fry's attitude to his Avondale customers stinks, and he should be thoroughly ashamed of himself

As was said a long while back in this thread, the legal standpoint is quite simply that the any goods sold by a retailer (caravan dealer in this example) are their responsibilty for warranty and more to the satisfaction of the purchaser (you or the hp company) theres no leeway there and it doesnt matter what agent or company they fall back on to support them, its their responsibility.

DO NOT BE FOBBED OFF.

I've been there and won.

I agree with daved.  Basically by refusing to honour the warranty or charging you they are committing a criminal offence, but then do ou really want to get your caravan servcied by a bunch of monkeys who don't give a toss.

The unfortunate bit is that if you have a warranty issue you will need to take it back to the delaer from whom you bought your caravan and if they find out it has been serviced by someone else will try and wiggle out of any warranty claim.

When all else fails including a registered letter to the dealer, get onto Trading Standards but on no account part with any cash to pay for the warranty.

HIi....,

....but is not the long term water ingress element known as a "Manufacturer's Warranty"?

The Sale of Gods Act will make sure that any Van is fit for purpose and of merchantable quality etc.......but does this reply to extended warranties.....I would be surprised if it did. (Regretfully)

Hi

Phoned the Caravan Club today, they don't cover water ingress in their insurance and they wouldn't add it on.  They just suggested my plan B - buy a warranty from somewhere else, it would be cheaper than hauling ass up to the FoD every 12 months (and more convenient because dad's sold the fourtrak and we'd have to talk nice to someone with a big enough engine).

According to their website, the AA have a water ingress warranty as long as "the van is under 3 years old on inception (check) and it covers up to 5 years old". I'm going to email them.  I'm assuming I'll be able to get a mobile service engineer in then. Their only other stipulation is that it gets tested for damp every year.  Has anyone had any dealings with the AA? What they like for paying out?

I spoke to Carafit in Cross Hands today. They're going to do me a 3 year warranty which will also cover water ingress, for £200.  This will take her up to 5 years old and will save us time and money towing her to FoD. (I still think they deserve another mention though, for being prepared to stand by the warranty!).

Bit of a pain having to get them to tow it on and off the site to service it, but at least we have peace of mind now.

Glad to hear you`re sorted with the warranty Karen. We face a 100 mile round trip once a year for the service to keep the warranty going but mebs we can combine it with a stint away somehow? Dont think anyone in our area does mobile servicing/warranties have to check that out. My only concern now is if any work is needed specific to our van ie body shell, windows etc what then?? Ruddy minefield this caravan game. BTW I caught a glimpse of Swift (I think) on the local news the other night any probs there?
Cheers
Steve

I heard they were on a 4-day week.  OH said we should see who the warranty is actually with (Carafit mentioned that Insurers had agreed to cover them) and see if we can cut out the middle man (Carafit), get a warranty straight from the Insurers and still have a mobile service.

Hope you can sort something out, do a bit of digging.
