Viggo -

I was answering your previous post where you had said the need fo check meter reeadings would prohibit leaving when office not open. Can't have it both ways :)

As far as environmentally friendly, well I think campers are very good already. I certainly behave myself when it comes to water conservation and also using electricity. Lets not forget, 'mod cons' such as satellite receivers and lcd tvs dont use all that much juice!!

I have sent an e-mail to the caravan club for their comments. CL owner advised she had mentioned the change of charging/installing of pitch meters to the site officer, who said she was the first one he had come across and seemed unsure.

Am awaiting their comments - auto email back said 3 to 4 days - will keep you posted :)

Agree.  And perhaps a family staying in to watch TV would create less global warming than others who go off in the car.  Case of swings and roundabouts really.

Bertie.

Just thought I would update this post with the reply from the CC.

"...............The ofgem ruling came into effect on 1st January 2003. It is framed in such general terms that it includes caravan sites,................... Since this time the Club have advised(not enforced)CL owners to consider an all inclusive charge for electricity as the alternative would entail that they would need to determine the amount to levy for useage.

I am sorry that you feel you have been overcharged for your stay and I will of course forward your comments to the CL Advisor. Though in the interests of efficiency we regret we are unable to write back to members detailing the outcome of each complaint................"

At least I tried. But I will personally not be using metered sites unless I can be assured that I am only paying for what I use. I would much prefer a rise in EHU pitch cost so that we can compare between 1 site and another.

Thanks for listening!!

So the CC are agreeing that to over charge for supply of electricity is against OFGEM ruling but they are not willing to do anything about it on behalf of members?

I think you are all missing the point here. Surely it will be better

A. As if you are careful with electric it will reduce your cost of camping.

B. If you use less electricity then this surely must be better for the environment.

Instead of keep moaning about everything can we not look at the positives for once!

Canvasquivers -

What has being overchanged got to do with the environment? I have heard the "global warming" card played as an excuse for many things but never for overcharging before.

Our House uses £10.00 worth of electricity per week on avererage...to include:-

electric cooking, lights t.v, computer, radio,Fridge,Washing machine,Dishwasher, Kettle,Iron, Toaster wall lights... electric fires up the central heating, ...

On a campsite im charged £4.00 per night, just for fridge and lights,

thats an equivalant to £28.00 per week on a domestic tariff... so where does the difference in cost go... £18.00 ? would it be the provision of hook up points, being installed at the site, together with running the power to those points?

As were on the prepayment system ( Card) we can control what we use, and do not abuse the power that is available to us. should the card register the amount left available as being at £1.40 in the evening.. this would see us through that evening and untill the following evening...where we would TOP UP...

I think the awsner is.. we expect to pay more... because its a holiday.. electricity whilst camping is not a an urgent requirement ( unless on medical terms) but a luxury,

Why do you think that being careful with electric consumption will reduce the cost of camping? You will have paid the money and cannot get a refund on any units not used.
Why would using less electric be better for the environment as it is a known fact that the "global warning" caused by humans myth is a tactic by governments to extract more tax from us?
Question; Are people who use a battery only to power up the electrics in the caravan environmentally friendly. After all to charge up the battery they have to use electric and according to some this is nbot environmentally friendly!

It would be nice to be able to reduce the cost of electricity on site... but as i see it most sites charge a set amount which is either added to your pitch fee, or is inclusive in the charge... how would i see about a refund of unused electricity?

Swiftlady - Most sites charge for providing the service not for any electricity used so not possible to get refund as they supply the elecricity for "free".

The charge for electric only applies at the few sites that meter usage, in which case they can only (legally) charge for units used with no mark-up on their cost of supply but can include an amount to cover any standing charges.
