Actually Smutty Nutty the Warrior does belong to me and not hubby. The last time he reversed it beside the caravan he wanged into a flag pole. To be fair though, he drives a Punto on a daily basis, which is of course much smaller. I must get some parking sensors for the back of the Warrior, it would make life a bit easier. Most parking spaces are not long enough.

Hi I am a lady tower.

I am quite happy to tow my 24ft Lunar caravan with my X5 BMW with kids & dog & quite often I go & set up on site & my hubby joins us later. We have only had our caravan 18 mths but I tow, set up & am quite happy to do everything on the caravan. The only thing I struggle with is the awning on my own. I say come on ladies get towing....it really is easy once you get used to it.

i tow and I wish my mum would try. We bought the caravan between us and we often go away for the weekend. We take our 2 dogs and do everything from unhitching and setting up the awning ourselves.

Hi from another lone female tower.Used to camp years ago but now that I'm on my own (except for the dog ) decided to buy a caravan. Had never towed in my life before but decided to bite the bullet. Practised with a few trips to the local industrial park and have had some lovely trips since then. I really do think it's just a case of confidence and although I can manage a 3 point turn in our cul de sac with the van on the back, I still worry about hills and the enormous juggernauts that come flying past ! It's been a steep learning curve but I love it and wished I done it years ago and caravanners all seem to be lovely people and happy to help if you're stuck. I would certainly recommend it to other ladies it's just a pity I don't know any other ladies with caravans

I tow our caravan - I was not sure at first how I would be - very nervous at first but I just took my time and was not going to be beat - I know I don't have to do it as Degsy has always towed and would keep doing it but as I drive, I would prefer to do my share especially on a long haul.

I tow our caravan.  My husband cant drive so i HAVE too!!

I love it though, people often do a "double take" when they see me towing, its hilarious.  Ive been towing for about 5 years now, no problems at all.

I towed our huge twin axle Lunar Delta everywhere a few years ago, mind you I had towed horse boxes for years so that did help.

Loll5 - see ! And unless I'm much mistaken lily56's location was also Tyne & Wear.

(Perhaps I should start up a `Towing Agency' to bring  women towers together ?!)

well, we're off to scotland (bunree cc site) next weekend. As its about 7 hours drive from where we are ive agreed to tow for the first 3 hours with hubby doing the last stretch. A few things that concern me:

A) ive never ever towed the caravan before

B) ive only done motorway driving once as part of my pass plus course (but we're setting off at 4am sunday morning so im hoping its not gonna be busy)

C) hubby is not a good passenger and stresses me out when im driving a car yet he actually wants me to tow the caravan - apart from sitting him in the back with the kids how do i get him to keep quiet and let me get on with it?

I need to tow these first few hours as its a long way for the onus to be on one person but im actually quite scared if im honest.

Our outfit is a skoda octavia and a sprite musketeer (900kg fully laden) so not a 'heavy' outfit but still....

Monica

You'l be fine just take your time, and remember when overtaking to leave extra room for the van to some in as you don't want to cut in to early

Just remember smooth steering to and changing lanes smoothly, Motorways are the easiest roads to drive on you'll probably enjoy it once you get going, just think of it as a normal dual carriageway with an extra lane but remember not to use lane three with the van anyway

I would just tel hubby to shut his trap or he can walk, thats what Nedra says to me if I ever pass comment and it generally works. LOL You'll soon be towing all over the place, You never know you may enjoy it and your husband maybe will quite enjoy being a passenger.
