Wierd - All the Bailey knockers have gone suspiciously quiet!!!!!

okay after 30 or is it 50 years of making vans bailey have finally made a good one, assuming they have used good spec materials then the pegasus is a giant step forward for uk vans and we have finbally caught up with what eriba have been doing since the 60's, i have said it upmteen times ally framing is the way to go as it dont rot. make them lightweight

by the time i can afford to get rid of my fleetwood i might look at one

I think it is unfair to say that tbh, unless we know the number of vans sold versus the number of faulty/damp ones it is impossible to tell if one manufacturer is better or worse than another.  Plenty of damp Fleetwoods around especially the front which was a known weak point.  Swift have had their fair share of problems too.

For instance, Ford sells millions of cars but Rolls Royces are a niche product.  You will therefore hear many reports of faulty Fords but very few about faulty Rollers because there are millions on the road but what percentage does this represent?

Looks good (for a Bailey) but I was disappointed that the vans still have alloy sides and will pick up "dings" like all others.

The warranty is good, but our Swift already has a six year warranty against water ingress so not such a huge step forward....maybe next time?

i hope bailey do well with the new van they have come up with plenty of good ideas and they say the new body shell will be used in the other models in time. i bet it will make the other caravan manufacturers  sit up and take note.

I don't know about the water-ingress warranties though - it doesn't seem to be something which features heavily in articles in the French magazines.

This will be because water ingress has never been a problem on continental built caravans. The French don't actually expect their caravans to leak.

I know - from the number of really old vans that you still see trundling around France!  There are never any queries about 'how do I repair the damp', or 'there are water stains under my windows and my duvet is wet through' in French magazines, and no websites likes Wizards when entire caravans are just a pile of wet rot.  Eribas feature heavily in most French storage sites including the undercover one we're thinking of putting our van on, so that out of the British weather, it may not fall foul of the great water ingress fairy!

I'm still interested in having a look at the Bailey, though.  At least it should make other manufacturers sit up and take notice - and perhaps make future caravans as leak-free as they appear to be able to make boats!

In Practical Caravan they state 'Prices from £15k' - but no more details as yet.  Apparently there is a model similar to the Senator Indiana, which we were interested in.

Thanks for the photos, Dave.  It looks an interesting van, but I think I would wait a bit to see what people thought about it 'in practice' so to speak, before buying one.

The wife doesn't care for the fabric pattern - she says it looks old fashioned.  I wondered about the water tank.  Will you be able to buy a device to enable you to connect to water hook-up, like you can with an aquaroll?  If you do you would need to have a hole so that you could feed the pipe through to the water tank, or, a hole if you put the water tank outside.  I can't see any evidence of this in the photos, but it may be deceptive.

I wonder what surprises we will find in the washroom.  The layout of the van in the photo looks like the Sancerre/California.  Not keen on the black coloured locker cover.  I do like the colour of the intyernal lockers with the white/cream strip.  It looks as if the system for keeping them shut is similar to that on the Sancerre - with an out of sight clasp.

I will be interested to see one in real life.

David, the uphostery colour was the first thing that my OH commented on (not favourably either!!!).  Hopefully like the Pageant and Senator ranges there will be options.

Re the water tank my guess is it will still have an external socket near the hot water tank for the aquaroll (or a mains socket like the new Lunars) so on a mains hookup then it will be the same as ours.  That setup just gives you the option of travelling without the aquaroll for weekend travels or winter caravanning.  My guess is that the internal tank will not have any permanently open hole for piping as that would reduce the insulation so make it less useful for very cold weather touring.

Whyenever I look at options for upholstery, I never think they are that much better (me being fussy).

The water system sound as if it might be a little over complicated for me if they have gone down the line of asking for an aquaroll as well as a water tank, and I always prefer the water system outside the van as far as possible - less can go wrong. 17

No doubt time will tell!

I wonder who chooses the upholstery fabrics for caravans?  At the moment they are mostly brown/fawn/grey with touches of 'duck egg blue' - where a few years ago everything was pink or fawn.  Our van (based on the Dutch Toscane - a Swift model produced for export) is blue - which is a very popular colour in Europe.

With Bailey, who offer alternatives, the alternatives are so similar that there's actually little to choose between them.  Years ago we had the option of having covers made up in our own fabric, and perhaps there's still a market for that.  In the event, I've recovered my own cushions, even doing the buttons and making all the stripes match up,  and made new contrasting curtains, and it's not that difficult (see gallery for photo).  It's not to everyone's taste, but we love it.

Gah I have tried 3 shops this morning and not a Practical Caravan in sight.  Harumph, miserable now.  Can't be bothered to battle the traffic to get into town, 24 hour Tesco tonight me thinks!

There will be 3 fabric options. the one shown is not the standard.

There is a normal external connedtion for a water container.
