At 4 pm however site had settled down and I got logged in no problem so went to book Braithwaite Fold site at Windermere for a week in June next year. Every single blinking non awning pitch was fully booked right through May, June July, ad infinitum!!! What the heck is going on here!

CC have very few pitches on most sites which will not take an awning, if you do book a non awning pitch then you will be very restricted in where you can pitch when you arrive. If you talk to the CC wardens they always advise that people book an awning pitch so that they can have the widest choice of pitches available, you can always use an awning pitch withoput an awning but cannot use a non awning pitch with an awning.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

I see on another forum someone quite proud of the fact that they have just made 19 separate bookings for next year.

Isn't it time that the CC limited the number that can be made?

If they are able to use them fine, the only time it should be a problem is if they fail to use them and fail to give adequate notice that they are not using them. I booked 70 nights on CC sites yesterday and I shall use every one of them, though it should be said that many of those nights are in the low and saver season when I fully expect to be on sites which are a long way from being full.

i dont think the amount of bookings you make is a problem.the problem arises when they dont show up to a booking without ringing to cancel in advance. members who fail to show without giving notice should be made to pay a deposit on future bookings or even be charged for the pitch they didnt use !! .why penalise everyone else for another members lack of respect ?

I don't agree with you, forget making them pay, most of them would pay up anyway and do the same again, it would be better to cancel their membership and then prevent them from joing again for a couple of years.

On CC sites awning pitches and non awning pitches cost the same.

I have voted with my feet. Today I cancelled my membership and told them in no uncertain terms why. For the third year running I have not been able to book a weekend at Rowntree park York . When i eventurally got onto the site at 8.00pm last night every single saturday night in 2010 is booked. Yes I know  it is the most popular site and yes I know there are others around York but we want to go to Rowntree park so we don;t have to drive to a park and ride etc and have all that hassle of using the car ...so thats it stuff em!!

Really? Good when the Outlaws next moan about this I'll point that out, mind you the next thing will be them arguing that it should cost less as it takes up less space!

Well your choice obviously, but certainly for us there are more +++'s to the CC than one particular site, still looking on the bright side that is one less person trying to get into RP - only joking! (Well sort of)

I was thinking more of York, Western Australia, so she could see her brother.  Not really - canaries would do  ( or anywhere away from home, preferably warm ).

I am not really a scrooge - I know how much my daughter loves Xmas, but I do find it stressful.

Non refundable deposits ?

You want it; you pay for it: not block booking and change your mind later.

Have the CC not heard of travel insurance to compenstae members who have to cancel for unforseen circumstances?

Why doesn't the CC give it a try, and also consider only 3 months in advance bookings, only 3 bookings per 3 months, and opening bookings at 9 am on Sundays to give Mon to Fri 9-5, and Saturday workers a chance?

No single night bookings over a weekend, unless you have been there since Thursday night at least.

Do they ever listen?

Jim.

The caravan club gave it a try for many years, it is only in the last three or four years that they have not charged deposits. They have published their information on the subject which was that when they stopped asking for deposits the booking process was much easier to manage, the number of bookings and the number of units using their sites increased and the number of no shows fell.

The only real problem with bookings is one of supply and demand, according to the chairman of the wardens association the CC have 37 members for every pitch that it runs so it is inevitable that in some places getting a pitch at some times of the year will be nearly as easy as winning the lottery. The only ways to do anything about this is to balance supply and demand and there are only two ways of doing this, firstly they can increase the supply something which they do seem to be trying to do but it is a slow process. Alternatively they can reduce the demand and the only way to do this would be to raise the cost of staying on a site to the point where  people say it is too expensive, £50 a night for a couple would probably do this, do you fancy paying that? I do not so we are left with the present system where everybody has the same chance and is able to use their caravans as they want to not in some proscribed way.

I believe that the postal booking system works well, with a percentage of pitches  held back for postal applications.

Certainly worth a punt next year if you know that you cannot gain access to the site on the day.
