Non refundable deposits ?
You want it; you pay for it: not block booking and change your mind later.
Have the CC not heard of travel insurance to compenstae members who have to cancel for unforseen circumstances?
Why doesn't the CC give it a try, and also consider only 3 months in advance bookings, only 3 bookings per 3 months, and opening bookings at 9 am on Sundays to give Mon to Fri 9-5, and Saturday workers a chance?
The caravan club gave it a try for many years, it is only in the last three or four years that they have not charged deposits. They have published their information on the subject which was that when they stopped asking for deposits the booking process was much easier to manage, the number of bookings and the number of units using their sites increased and the number of no shows fell.
The only real problem with bookings is one of supply and demand, according to the chairman of the wardens association the CC have 37 members for every pitch that it runs so it is inevitable that in some places getting a pitch at some times of the year will be nearly as easy as winning the lottery. The only ways to do anything about this is to balance supply and demand and there are only two ways of doing this, firstly they can increase the supply something which they do seem to be trying to do but it is a slow process. Alternatively they can reduce the demand and the only way to do this would be to raise the cost of staying on a site to the point where people say it is too expensive, £50 a night for a couple would probably do this, do you fancy paying that? I do not so we are left with the present system where everybody has the same chance and is able to use their caravans as they want to not in some proscribed way.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
