CHRONICLES OF THE STEALTH – THE JOURNEY BACK (3)
We delivered the caravan to the Flixborough depot on the morning of Monday 15th August 2011.
The sort list was as follows :-
The leak, side decal, door seal, low table, chest top, toilet seat, siren lying loose, lip on kitchen shelf to be repositioned and the sink taps. I also commented that I had been disappointed about the shine I could obtain on the nose cone after hours of polishing !. I had a right arm like Arnie’s !.
We then left to sample the delights of North Lincolnshire – Sc**thorpe, Grimsby etc etc…..!. The vistas of steelworks and chemical plants !.
We returned on the morning of Friday 19th August sated on the delights of the area.
Jeremy (nice guy), the production manager went over the van with us. Said they had taken off the nose cone and pulled back the roof and went over it with a damp meter. The only point of water access they had found was the top seal of the front window at the left side where for some unknown reason the mastic tape hadn’t adhered to the caravan surface. Sounded feasible!.
So 2 different water access points for two different models of caravans – the X63 doesn’t have a front window !.
The door come as a complete unit which were fitted into the aperture and Jeremy stated that the wayward seal should have been spotted during the PDI !. This had been rectified.
The decal had been repositioned.
The toilet seat had been adjusted and permanently fixed in the position we wanted. He confirmed that the bowl did not move despite what the salesman had told us.
The siren should have been removed as they had changed its location during construction and was surplus to requirements !.
The kitchen shelf was replaced with a new one.
The taps were positioned so that they operated like a domestic set up, i.e. hot on the left etc….!.
The front cone had been buffed with an electric polisher which had brought it up a treat.
As far as the table and chest top were concerned nothing could be done as that was how they were designed and supplied and no–one else had complained ! . We’ve had a think and think we can resolve it..
Jeremy then presented us with flowers and wine as an apology. Out of his own pocket I would think !. Never saw anyone from Customer Services or Senior Management apart from Jeremy !. And no refund of my expenses!.
Remember that these faults occurred during the construction of the van including the reason why it leaked, so was not a warranty issue i.e. fridge packing up after 6 months , etc etc !.
So we left with the assurance that all problems had been resolved as far as was possible.
You would think that would be the end of this particular saga but no !.
My next post will explain what caused my wife to burst into tears on the way home !.
------------- Greetings from the frozen north !
