It makes you wonder how many other Stealth were sold and how many owners have similar problems?

Only by meeting other owners will that be known as Dunster House aren't publicly acknowledging that there is a major problem. They just keep apologising - unfortunatly that doesn't help the situation.

CHRONICLES OF THE STEALTH – THE JOURNEY BACK (3)

We delivered the caravan to the Flixborough depot  on the morning of  Monday 15th August 2011.

The sort list was as  follows :-

The leak, side decal, door seal, low table, chest top, toilet seat, siren lying loose, lip on kitchen shelf to be repositioned and the sink taps. I also commented that I had been disappointed about the shine I could obtain on the nose cone after hours of polishing !. I had a right arm like Arnie’s !.

We then left to sample the delights of North Lincolnshire – Sc**thorpe, Grimsby etc etc…..!. The vistas of steelworks and chemical plants !.

We returned on the morning of Friday 19th August sated on the delights of the area.

Jeremy (nice guy), the production manager went over the van with us. Said they had taken off the nose cone and pulled back the roof and went over it with a damp meter. The only point of water access they had found was the top seal of the front window at the left side where for some unknown reason the mastic tape hadn’t adhered to the caravan surface. Sounded feasible!.

So 2 different water access points for two different models of caravans – the X63 doesn’t have a front window !.

The door come as a complete unit which were fitted into the aperture and Jeremy stated that the wayward seal should have been spotted during the PDI !. This had been rectified.

The decal had been repositioned.

The toilet seat had been adjusted and permanently fixed in the position we wanted. He confirmed that the bowl did not move despite what the salesman had told us.

The siren should have been removed as they had changed its location during construction and was surplus to requirements !.

The kitchen shelf was replaced with a new one.

The taps were positioned so that they operated like a domestic set up, i.e. hot on the left etc….!.

The front cone had been buffed with an electric polisher which had brought it up a treat.

As far as the table and chest top were concerned nothing could be done as that was how they were designed and supplied and no–one else had complained ! . We’ve had a think and think we can resolve it..

Jeremy then presented us with flowers and wine as an apology. Out of his own pocket I would think !. Never saw anyone from Customer Services or Senior Management apart from Jeremy !. And no refund of my expenses!.

Remember that these faults occurred during the construction of the van including the reason why it leaked, so was not a warranty issue i.e. fridge packing up after 6 months , etc etc !.

So we left with the assurance that all problems had been resolved as far as was possible.

You would think that would be the end of this particular saga but no !.

My next post will explain what caused my wife to burst into tears on the way home !.

I agree with simon23, it's better than a soap opera, I can't wait to hear what's gone wrong next.  But I feel guilty too because, however interesting your tale, it must have been very stressful for you and I think you're bearing up remarkably well.

From the story so far it looks like a Stealth owners forum should be set up to discuss the range and find out if problems are endemic . A ``Class Action`` style of seeking legal redress could then be sought if enough of the caravans have enough manufacturing faults to justify seeking damages .
It would be preferable to sue as a group on the grounds of cost and to keep any case from the small claims court which tends to be a toothless tiger due to the plaintiff frequently winning but not getting paid out and no further action being taken against the losing party .
Good luck with finding other owners who are prepared to share their experience with you . Maybe the Chris Register could help determine how many have been sold , no names and addresses of course , data protection has to be taken into account .

All those faults were warranty issues and in a court of law there would be a possibility of a full refund under SOGA due to the number of inherent faults!

CHRONICLES OF THE STEALTH. Homeward Bound.

With joy in our hearts we left Flixborough and headed north, our plan was to stay 2 nights at Jedburgh to check that the repairs had been successful. As luck would have it, it rained the 1st night and the van was water tight !.

We were in a happier mood after that and excitedly planned our autumn holiday. Should have known better, the Stealth hadn't finished with us yet.

Wakening up on the Sunday morning my wife realised that she could see daylight coming from the bottom corner of the bed. On examination I saw that the floor to ceiling internal support panel had come away from the caravan inner wall and there was now a 2 centimetre gap all the way up and the daylight she had seen was coming in via the fridge vents !.
This panel holds up the kitchen wall cupboards and the microwave.

On seeing this my wife burst into tears - all our plans made the previous evening now in tatters !

Next post will be about contacting Dunster House !

I think enough is enough, clearly not built to acceptable standard, I think you now need to request it's replaced with a new caravan that has been built properly.

I have just read the posts from beginning to end with my jaw increasingly dropping! I agree wholeheartedly with TonyC52. Please ask for a replacement. In fact not ask...demand! I would also be asking for recompense and checking out legal rights etc. I know you love the caravan so a replacement that has been built properly is definitely what you need!
I think Stealth, if they read this, should be very very thankful that you still love the caravan and remain loyal...but how much more can you take?

Disgusting tale of woe, I agree Dunster House do the decent thing. These poor people do not deserve this total shed of a caravan.

CHRONICLES OF THE STEALTH. At home.

I took photos and sent them in an email to Dunster House. I informed them that I wouldn't be taking it back to them and they would have to come to me. I said that a better idea was for them to take up a new van and take away the 'turkey''
The reply stated that the gap was a minor matter and they would sent someone up early next week !. No mention of a replacement.

I had suggested that the gap had occured because of the outer roof skin being pulled back during the check for damp.
The reply stated that the roof had not been touched only the nose cone had been taken off !.

I replied back that you can see the new mastic on the awning rails.

The reply came back again repeating that the roof hadn't been touched. To the best of my knowledge this person hadn't been to see my van as he works in a totally different place and I see my van every day as it is parked in my rear garden !.

I told him that the Production Manager had told us that they had pulled back the roof skin and asked the question 'did he tell us lies ?'.

This has not been answered.

I told him that our intention had been to go away this weekend with the van to try out our new awning a Bradcot Modus which was still in boxes in our house but I was concerned regarding more problems arising.

He assured me that it was a minor problem and that we should go away the weekend !.

I told him that if we did go we wouldn't be back till early Monday afternoon. I would be back to work on the Tuesday but my wife would be in.

They changed the day of the engineer visiting to Saturday 3rd September. Why do I need to be there if it is a minor matter ?.

We still hadn't made up our minds to go and my wife was putting the gear back in which we had taken out for the trip to Lincoln when the bottom fell out of one of the chest drawers !.

We didn't go away !
