Oh I couldn't agree more. Wife and I gave up going away for the standard length weekend years ago. Simply not worth all the hassle. Don't use the caravan for anything less than five nights these days.

Like you, when we add up the cost of storage, insurance and servicing we wonder whether the outlay is worth it and as we get older we increasingly feel that it isn't.

If you notice the strap line on fallen Angel's post you will see that she has dyslexia, something that makes it very hard to spell a lot of words and actually it is brave of her to post on her warts and all!!!  Many would either not try or spend hours composing very short text using only words they are sure of.   Spell check is not that much help for dyslexics as you need to be able to select the right word from a number of options that are all very similar!

Many others are bad at spelling for other reasons, including poor teaching, lack of use ( using word docs all the time or not needing to write)  and poor typing skills but all are welcome here as this is meant to be a talk between e-friends rather than a formal site requiring work level grammar and spelling.

Thanks for the lecture. If you look at my strapline you'll see that I was laughing and not being too serious.

think you missed the point here.  I know that Fallen Angel is more than capable of speaking for herself however for many who have had a life time of explaining why their spelling is not as good as others and/or being ridiculed by others  ( children are so cruel at times and dyslexia was not really understood a couple of decades ago even by teachers)who do not understand then even something meant as a lighthearted joke can be quite upsetting.

I hate the day before you set off....

There's just soooo much to do.  Packing all the clothes and food, dragging the awning and all the kit out of the cupboards/shed/garage and stuffing them in the car. Getting all the bedlinens ready and - worst of all - fitting the sheets etc on the fixed bed.

I can't believe we'll ever be ready to set off - but we always make it on time (somehow).

Ignorance is no excuse, but I honestly didn't know of Fallenangel's position. Be assured I'm wearing sackcloth and ashes - there's no need for anyone else to join in the kicking!

Why is my going to the shower block in my nightie and (substantial) dressing gown so offensive to some people?   It just makes sense to me...I'm well covered up and like to take a shower before putting on my clean clothes for the day.

I am with you Patches though I do own pjs for camping that look more like jogging bottoms and I do pull on a fleece rather than dressing gown so probably fool some into thinking I am dressed lol!!

I think you find that many sites with campers in tents have lots of people going to the showers in pjs since they don't have running water alternatives and it can be harder to get dressed inside anyway ( or at least it was before tents went so big!!)  I really cant see any issues as long as pjs are decent and cover up the bits that need covering in public lol

Don't think that you are transfering any more germs than if you went in day clothes.

Doesnt bother me if people go to showers pj's.  On Anglesey summer before last, at Dafarn Rhos site there was a lady who walked from her large motorhome across to the shower every morning, passing our van,  wearing nothing but a skimpy towel - and my OH didnt mind at all!!

'Lazy gits, that dont flush the toilets and mop out the showers.......grrrrr'

Just seen one of the replies (quote above) - how many of caravan owners use their own showers/toilets - not a criticism - just wondering? we are in tents at the mo but are looking to have a caravan in the future - just wondering if we'd do the same or use our own facilities? sorry to hi-jack the thread ! x :)

Mmmm,,,,,not sure

Traffic problems when towing.  Swearing, and bad behaviour generally but especially in front of the wife and kids.  Drunken loutish behaviour, I do enjoy a tipple or three, but some of the states you see sometimes.  People not cleaning the showers and loos after themselves.  Muddy pitches. Young adults (Mainly) playing ball sports too close to your van and car, Couples arguing loud enough for all to hear, People walking between pitches rather than using the footpath.

Looking a my list, suffice to say there's nothing I much dislike about camping, mainly problems with a small minority of not considerate campers.  Get rid of them, and there won't be a problem.

What's the problem with PJ's????? We don't do it, but is it really a problem? Why is this any worse than wearing speedo's or shorts at the pool or beach.  I mean really? As long as it's not obscene, where's the problem?

But happily the things I like about caravaning are far more than my dislikes.

Top of my list of likes would be Campers.  Taken as a bunch, most are great, considerate and freindly people.  Most can't do enough for you and I wish I had more time, to make more friends amongst those we've met.

Tony B

Oh dear, most of my pet hates have been well and truly covered above, but...

... there was the one occassion we got to site, only to find my mother-in-law had sneakily booked and pitched up dead opposite!
