Thanks for advise been onto supplier (Nicholl Industries) no quibble - full refund.  Just shows how useless these PDQ`s are.  Keeping to the full awning in future.

Each to there own I suppose, I love it all. Some love it, more hate it, but I like the idea and if its a sh*te as everyone says I'll stick it on flea bay for 99p. We want a cheap weekend awning and its seems to fit that bill. We dont care if it leaks because were not sleeping in it!

Hmm, just seen on the Pyramid website:

"The New Much Improved more robust Mark 3 PDQ Awning;

# Strong, robust with 124/Gm2mtr Rip Stop Polyester canopy instead of the MK2 version 64/gm2mtr
# Quick Easy Lock alloy frame now with 3 No roof poles instead of 1 giving more strength and rigidity"

Think they realised just how bad a product it was (and doubly so for us poor saps who bought a Mk1 version.

Dont be fooled is all i can say... i was assured the new XL MRK3 was all that... all problems sorted out... nothing could go wrong.... rubbish!!!!

We used ours for one night in August... the raid soaked through and was dripping off the pole... took hours to get it up with that extremely fiddley middle pole... and went to open it up last friday... guess what we found.. same as everyone else.. soaking wet (even thought they added some rivits in the bottom of the bag) and same as others... covered in mould and mildew.. we're waiting to hear from pyramid as the company we bought it off doesnt seem to want to know...

NICE!!!!

My Advice is do not buy.

Pyramid have contacted me today saying how very surprised they were as they've saying that this is ***VERY RARE*** with their new super-duper  all singing XL MRK3.... ive just had to take photo's of the mildew and huge drops of water on the poles.  They do appear to be quite reasonable though so... We'll see....

HI Agree the PDQ MKIII version seems no better than the earlier ones.  We returned ours to the supplier and they have given us a full refund.  They said they have had some similar complaints.  Also wrote to Pyramid saying how long it took to put up and roll back up into the bag also that we didn't feel it would be weatherproof.  Their response was to suggest taking some of the poles out to pack it away and it needed to have a thorough soaking before waterproof.  They also sent a clipping from Practical Caravan where they were voted the best lighweight awning!  Since my initial letter to them we had taken the awning off the caravan and had a soaking when we opened the bag.  Fortunately it wasn't there long enough to get mildew as we'd only used it the once at the end of our season.  I have written back to them - will see if I get a response!  Now investigating alternatives ready for next year - any good suggestions?

Well, the latest from Pyramid is....

Is there any damage to the item? as mould is a natural occurance and would not be covered under warranty.

Thats the reply I got today after i emailed the pics of huge drops of water on the poles and mildew covering everything inside... are these people nuts... If an item is covered in mildew, that says to me that the item is NOT waterproof......

I would tell them you are taking it further - Trading Standards. They must be reimbursing all the other suppliers who are giving us full refunds.

Just had another email.. asking for my home address so they can send me some reproofer... I just said no way... My next step is going to be trading standards as theres no way anyone could sleep in that rediculous awning with rain dripping through.. i bet the bloke whos trying to fob me off wouldn't have that awning hanging off his caravan.

I was sent reproofer, which works well! (But why didnt the original material?!) and a big tube of glue to, in effect, seal up the stitching holes on the canvas bag, which was the cause of the leaking into the bag). Apparently the canvas should 'swell' on first exposure to rain to seal up the holes; mine didnt; must be the wrong sort of rain her in wales!

Kaizip - We bought a Sunncamp Ultima 390 from Awnings Direct at the beginning of the season.  Fab awning.  OH can manage it by himself (and he's only 5ft 6) and it folds away into its own sports bag.  We've put it away wet, put it in the storage box, come back weeks later, no mold (hope I'm not tempting fate!).  I know a lot of people who have these, and the smaller 260 version.

I've only heard of one or two people who say they're not suitable for their vans - something to do with a sharply sloping front on the van.  Cost me £169, if it lasts a few years, I'll be happy.

Hi Karen, many thanks for that recommendation - will have a look at it.  Has it withstood the great British weather ok?  There seem to be so many to choose from and don't want to end up with the wrong one again (PDQ!!) so good to hear of any good (or bad) experiences.

Kaizip, we had a PDQ for all of one weekend - took it back the zips broke within about 2 hours.  It was the MK1. There are many threads mentioning the Sunncamp Ultimas, just do a search.  Our local Pyramid dealer do a cheaper version, but I'm glad I went for ours instead, because with ours, each panel zips all the way up so you can use them as doors, instead of the "real" side door.  With the pyramid, I noticed they only zipped to about a foot off the floor, so it was a large window effectively.

We've also bought the inner tent annexe for £30, we had the in-laws sleeping in it August Bank Holiday week.  Our 390 is huge, I would've done with the 260 (2 panels instead of 3), but the edge would've been in the middle of our Toilet door. Its in the middle of the bedroom window now, which is still annoying, but we can put up with it.
