Its nothing to do with paying car tax.  That doesn't entitle anyone to clutter up our beauty spots.  They wouldn't like people doing it on their doorstep.  Police have got better things to do and local authorities respond by putting up height barriers.  They must be pretty sad people to want to spend their holidays in laybys just to evade spending a few pennies.

Councils are pretty good at putting parking charges on so many places nowadays , including shoppers parking next to large supermarkets and parking with easy access to beauty spots . So called `wild campers` will eventually end up paying to park in any place that is popular . More councils are introducing 24 hour 365 days per year charging in places you would not believe so `wild camping`will virtually disappear in all but undesirable/unpopular spots or places that the `wild camper` creates by driving onto a previously unspoiled bit of greenery . The `wild camper`is lucky in this country , we are still a reasonably civilized society that does not have an underclass that robs and injures those that camp away from safe enclaves . To those who prefer not to see `wild campers`, it is a lifestyle that will diminish . Travellers are a different issue though and this will get worse with our system of housing pricing and availability .

Camping right next to civilisation (such as a tarmac road) is to wild camping as a visit to the zoo is to a safari.

That is such a bizarre argument. Would you apply it in other contexts?

Had Galileo not known that the theory of heliocentrism was wrong, he wouldn't have argued with the Pope in its defence.

Your just a trouble maker out for arguing just for the sake of it i think..

As I've said all along i do wild camp but not in lay bys or similar type places. I'm on the beach night fishing and camping,  camping up on the mountains or off on the beaten track.

I'm no leach or a new age traveler. You must be thick tarring everyone with the same brush.
