Having just got a caravan and planning holidays for next year I was keen to join cc because we have used c&cc sites and the cc ones look good. Tbh this thread has completely put me off and I will be keeping my £40. We tend to book longer hols, a week at Easter, half term and 2weeks in the summer, so it would seem that the cc is not for me. I three that seems to be a problem of supply and demand.

Do not be put off by the myths that are put forward, if you want a pitch it is avery rare occurrence that one is unavailable, though you may not always get your first choice of site. I have never had a problem booking full weeks or longer in the 19 seasons I have been using the CC sites. Yes it is easier to get what you want when the booking site opens but for the majority of sites booking a month or so before you travel it is normally quite easy to find a pitch somewhere in the region that you want to visit.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

Sorry to hear that, Fee. It wasn't meant to put anyone off. We tend to use club sites for Feb Half Term, Easter, Spring BH and October Half Term without much trouble, and I don't book in December! I sometimes have to search a bit, but I always manage to get on somewhere. Also, there are plenty of CL's about, and these are not subject to the CC booking rules (that have been discussed in this thread) and are basically independant. Then you have the monthly magazine, the excellent Caravan Insurance and Red Pennant cover for continental travel. We are also in the Mayday car breakdown/recovery scheme - IMHO much better for caravanners than the AA, RAC and others. Our car is also insured through the CC too at a very competative rate. All in all, there is much more to the CC than the main sites. Please don't let the discussions on here put you off. I would say at least try it for a year or two to see if you think you are using the services it has to offer.

Best wishes,

-------------
David

As you know now when you want to go away, you can book within the first week or so of the bookings opening. Doing that I have never had any availability issues for the school holidays. It might be worth avoiding the first day though!!!

When does the online booking line open for 2012, I seem to remember 7th Dec?  Is that right?

That's correct, December 7th.

Hi Fee.
Certainly I didn't have much joy getting weekends over the summer wherever I looked but I'll still pay the 40, you don't have to stay many nights to justify the outlay and as David rightly points out there are some other excellent benefits.

This was really just a sharing of views on the booking system and was not intended to put anyone off what is essentially an excellent club with great facilities.

As David said try it for a year and see how you go, if you know where and when you want to go for at least some of your 2012 holidays get stuck in and book in December as I intend to do.

We very rarely get the sites we want, this year we only manage 1 C.C. site but must admit we keep renewing our membership for the C.L. sites.
