Hi Freelast. We were on the site at BA with you.So disappointed we missed coming over with our wine glasses

If I were you I would want a full refund. Your van is not 'fit for purpose'

We were given an exchange for another new van after thirteen months when 60% damp was discovered plus other problems. Your sounds worse than ours.

If the dealers won't do that then just tell them you are taking them to court and please could you have the name and address to where the papers can be sent.No way should you have to deal with all the problems with a twelve month old new van.

Ho ho! Small world.

Spoke to MD of the dealer, who was very positive. Indeed that day they did a repair on the van to make it watertight again. I have had a professional survey done and am now waiting for the written report. He did say verbally that I should go for a refund/replacement given the problems with it.

Refund or replacement is not quite as simple as it sounds. Our newish 4x4 has quite a low towing limit 1400kg, which was fine for us, but does limit choice.

We went out to have a look at the weekend, and we are really running out of makes! After the problems with our Stirling some years ago and Swift's disgraceful after sales service (or complete lack of) I would never touch another Swift again. Given the choice left, there are few with a fixed bed that are small enough - I simply don't want a large van. Otherwise its back to an end bathroom, bed made up using front seats again which we did not want.

Also would be looking at September to get hold of a replacement, in which case we might as well wait until next spring.

OH later did admit that she hadn't actually packed any wine....

No busy on planning final details of USA/Canada tour. I always pre-plan our route and what to see/do on route. I then gather this together, print it out and then get it spiral bound. Cannot yet book two Canadian campgrounds as the booking season does not open until the weekend.

Caravan has been back with the dealer now for 3 weeks, and not a word of response.

I'm not tackling the dealer yet as it is beginning to work in my favour under the Sale of Goods Act and "significant loss of use".

Dealer (Ropers) was pretty good. I think he was willing to do some sort of deal about replacing it, and tried to find out what we were thinking, without playing all his cards.

Despite not wanting it repaired, they did repair it, and as it turns out it is better than new. They tidied up all the faults I found, including some of the gruesome sealant on the roof, as well as sorting out the GRP liner at the front which they obviously glued down (which is the way they should have been built in my opinion). It would appear they were well skilled at this, so we were not the first to have this problem.

The final part arrived from Baileys some 4 months late! Its not essential and don't want the van ripping apart again to fit it.

In the end we decided to keep it. We didn't want to have to pay out more to replace it, and as I said earlier, we have not found anything better.

We'll see how it goes, however I have little confidence in the van or Baileys, so we will probably get rid in a year or two. My feeling is that it will be our last caravan.

I have not read all the pages on this thread but our Lunar sprung a leak at a front window at circa 3 years old. That was earlier this year.

I carried out a temporary repair with some mastic left in a tube I carry for emergencies. Although I squeezed some behind the rubber seal at the top, I found that the window hanger rail was slightly loose so I slackened a few screws and resealed the rail including screw holes where I am now convinced the water was entering.
I have not therefore resealed the window as my temp. fix seems to have done the trick.

A Lunar I previously owned developed a similar front window leak and was fixed under warranty.
Our friends had a huge leak on the roof of their brand new Sterling top of the range beast on its first outing and had to come home from holiday.
My Lunar resides indoors in France but my Carlight now twenty plus years old and still looks like new and sits at my back door in all weathers as dry as a bone.

I heartily agree that we need much better build quality and reliable sealant. Surely not asking too much atthe price you pay for a new caravan.

Thanks for the update Freeatlast, I will have to get on some ladders and have a look at our Pursuit's roof - Bailey claim these are all one piece, but apparently not. thank you for the tip,

Hi sammymac, we have a 540-5 Bailey new this year and I don't like to say it but all to date has been good.

Interested re looking at the roof as the Alu-tec system is supposedly a real good innovation and improves the build quality of the shell.

Overall were really pleased with ours and for an entry level has all the kit we need as a family.

Hope all stays ingress free !

Interesting vid of Kabe factory here. While construction is much the same, the pace of assembly is much slower than in the Bailey & Swift factory vids.

I'm sure it will be fine, it's not all doom and gloom there are thousands of happy caravaners out there with vans which don't leak. Most of them made here in the sunny UK too believe it or not.

Thanks Glamcamping, we have same van as you, and hopefully she will remain water tight. I think you were on folding campers forum before, like us and I agree for entry level van, and coming from a camper, it is like a hotel suite!! I just want it to be a dry hotel suite - fingers crossed.

Yes indeed sammymac, we had a pathfinder and this is our first van. From the sounds of some here canvas is more water tight 😜 although I am hoping not!

We're really happy with the pursuit and am looking forward to many adventures, best of luck with yours too.

Happy camping

The Bailey Pursuit is the replacement for the Orion. it looks like Bailey listened to customers comments about the Orion and incorporated them in the Pursuit. The door opening against the window is a major bug bear in the Orion, It never bothered me because my porch awning fits between door and window. some people don't like the curved rear end on the Orion, I quite like it, its a bit retro looking

Well guys, we have had a Bailey Pageant Monarch 2002 for over 6 years and use it 4/5 times a year, it is stored in our back garden never covered, and is bone dry, everything working and never had a problem.

So SWMBO and I decided it is time for a new van, yes brand new, so we have toured dealers, been to shows and sat in more caravans than you can shake a stick at over the last 12 months or so, all very nice. But, after reading so much bad about new vans we have decided to keep the old girl and give her a re vamp, she owes us nothing so I think she deserves a few quid spent, new upholstery and flooring, external gas and mains points and a good servicing.

Why do I need the hassle of a new van when there is nothing wrong with the one we got.....Proper job.
