Hi Colin 21, There are some jobs needing done that will cost me little or no money at all and I will do these first.
Then there are some jobs that will cost me a fair bit, but I will only tackle these if the first ones are successful.
As far as caravanning this summer, I really do not know if my health will allow me, so it's a wait and see scenario.
We will try a couple of local sites around the Trossachs and the like and if these go okay, then we will try further afield.
Hi boys and Girls WOW I didn't imagine when I started this thread it would still be going and get so much interest. I've had a bit of a break from caravanning but ...I have returned .... With an all new COC lol. It's a 1995 Coachman 390/2 SE it's in great condition, totally sound and no damp .... well that was until first trip out this week and when I connected up the water a connection under the sink popped apart and empted half a gallon of water into the van before I noticed it... still that's COCing for you.
------------- I didn't do it, it wasn't me

Picked a great weekend to take Dave our COC out just gone. Northumberland and Springhill Farm at Seahouses were excellent.
Pretty proud i managed to sort a minor leak from the bathroom sink tap. Firstly the cold connection had come loose over the winter, possible left over water frozen? That was easy and just push onto the connection.
The next problem i identified was water running back down the shower hose from the mixer when the pressure was on. After messing with the head i realised it was a screw fitting and figured the fitting underneath probably was...after much bending and messing managed to tighten the screw fitting back. No more leaking yay
Everything else in the caravan worked as it did last year.
Note to self - remember to pack ice cubes for a vodka/coke
Took advantage of the great weather we've been having round here last week to replace the main roof vent that was starting to look decidedly tatty out of my bedroom window. I replaced the smaller one in the shower compartment last autumn, as that one was actually leaking. I had noticed a few drips from it when we last used it, but put it down to condensation until I noticed what looked like out the window when I got home. When I took it down I found that it had gone brittle and there were holes in it, so I decided then to replace them both.
I just carry 3 planks that fit together using dowels to locate them. Home made so cost me next to nothing. The pieces of wood were off-cuts from other projects.
Nothing on this post for many months, so I thought I'd revive it as there are a few people on here now who have bought older caravans.
For the benefit of those who don't know, the title is tongue-in-cheek! Most of the oldies on here are far from crappy. I'm talking about the caravans, not sure about us!
had my crappy old 1994 avondale mayfly for getting on for five years now.. done at least 8000 miles touring with it mostly round scotland.. some pretty dodgy roads
it has a mover which i fitted.. led lights all round and onboard water.. its basically set up for off the grid use..
i had to do a few structural repairs to it at the end of last summer it had started to fall apart.. he he..
its all fixed now and about 40 pounds heavier with all the extra timber i have used.. probably stronger than when it was new.. i keep looking at slightly newer vans but when i think about all the extra work needed just to get something like i have now i always decide to keep my old one..
That's it isn't it, changing either car or caravan can be a bit of a gamble, and it's often better to spend a bit of time and money on what you have. At least you know it! Sadly, even buying new may not be without problems, witness some of the stories on this site. From what some people have said, their brand new caravan that they spent umpteen thousands on has come with more problems than my 1992 Elddis Wisp. Ok, so it may be under guarantee, but there's still all the hassle.
I am still wondering if I did the right thing last year when I changed my towcar from an 18 year old Volvo to an 11 year old Hyundai. I have just had to spend £750 on getting the cambelt changed and an MOT. The Volvo had 50,000 miles left before its cambelt needed changing again.
I'm thinking about LED lights for the Elddis this year. Shouldn't cost too much hopefully. Any suggestions where to get the bulbs would be welcome.
ours is on the yard needs a little ? a bit more work ,i would like some one to take it away ,restore it and have many holidays in it,we had our time in it, pop top,
Hi and welcome to the "CoC club". I'm not familiar with that make and model but hopefully someone will have one the same as yours. Enjoy your "new" caravan, age is no barrier to enjoyment!
