nearly right billy!!!

----So run this past me again-----pikey bint looks at your van, likes it & gives you £100 deposit---then comes back & gives you another £900=£1000 total-------yoove still got van minus wheels--pikey bint+bruv then turn up unannounced

this is where you got mixed up, the bruv goes in the van after seeing the wheels off, and tells us that the van is not what he wanted for his sister and will only pay £800, my contract is with her not him!,  they where looking at the van and found it had no wheels on so couldnt move it. they had been seen etc looking at the van without permission for being on the land.  i said that the deal was for the price agreed, i had recieved 2/3 of it up til this morning, they decided that they didnt want the van now, and want the full money returned, so i gave them the £900 back and said that as for the other £100 deposit paid that was unreturnable .

& attempt to steal van theve already 2/3 paid for but are frustrated in their efforts as wheels have bin removed--pikeys in a ragin fury then say yore van is carp--& demand a refund--you tell'em theve got to wait till Monday---& they get the 'ump even more--------so on Monday did you give'em £900 or the whole grand?------you have to admit its an odd story---pikeys 2/3 pays for 'van then tries to steal it----normally its- pikeys steal 'van they aint paid anything for---

i told them i cant get the money just like that on a saturday afternoon, and they are lucky that i had the £900, can you get that sort of money out your bank with 5 mins notice? most of us cant!

perhaps it would seem more normal for them to just plainly steal a van, not handing any money over, but they are having to get clever now arent they, so £100 deposit isnt a lot to pay out when you end up with a van that can be sold on for many times that amount. because of her and her lies we have turned away many prospective buyers as we understood that she was buying the van as she had paid money over tous and the final payment was going to be on thursday when she came to collect it, as arranged, and not on a saturday afternoon. if this had gone on on thursday then perhaps it wouldnt have been such a problem as the bank is open, however im stil left well out of pocket for advertising expenses, and my time etc, this woman has messed me about from start to now, but i have been very patient with her due to her circumstances, there are a few details that we have left out of this for reasons i cant go into, but its enough to say that this is a real warning for those selling in teesside as to be very aware who you are showing  your van to and where you show then it, as once they come to your van they know where it is!!

--I see where you are coming from tentmad----& I agree that if you are payed a deposit for a sale that aint followed thru--you should (in normal circumstaces) retain the deposit---I was just suggesting it might be better-in this case to return the deposit rather than upset the local pikeys----but there ya go-----

It is always best to write the the amount paid as well as the numbers . ..£100..( One Hundred Pounds) . It is awful that in this day and age the police are afraid to go into the Knackers sites. I see you call them Pikeys here ..we called them Knackers in Ireland. Just as well you took the wheels of your van. They would steal the wheels off your caravan while you slept in it.

hey im the one sat here feeling very shakey after this experience yesterday, still bordering on tears for what happened, these ppl tresspassed on property, with no one in the house, then they threatened us once we arrived, after trying to rip us off and getting now where along that line, so in my case i was not being unfair when i got a phone call from this irish woman and allowed her to view the van, i did this in good faith that if she was interested she would carry on through with the sale, i listened to her story of leaving her husband and using the van to live in with her kids as her h ubby beat her up, (seeing no evidence on her body of this tho) her telling me that she was going down to northampton with the van to her family, (i also know that a large amount of gypsies live in that area - due my job) and i accomodated her by hanging onto the van til she was able to get her gear together and leave that day!  i then also allowed her to pay in installments so as not to let her hubby get wind of large amounts of money moving hands.  so how can you say that i have done or caused any offense by labelling this woman, i have given her every opportunity to go against the way we all veiw gypsies but she has let them all down by behaving in the way we all expect them to conduct themselves, its there problem not ours that they are treated this way, as they dont give the majority of us anyother way of veiwing them, and rip us off at any opportunity. so i guess this is where i get this post to be locked now, i will ask ratty asap. im not having this go on any longer as my intention was to warn other within the area that there is this couple doing this scam and to be careful, also for those elsewhere to proceed with extreme caution, and now even tho the van is back up forsale i am very nervous of letting anyone near it to view, i want total prove that they are how they say they are and i have refused to give to much info out, just how can i sell a caravan if i feel this way?

Hopefully dawn this is a rare incedent and most people are of good intention.

I really believe you have been unlucky (Understatement).

Dont let the minority of 's put you off.

Hope you feel better about it soon.

If its any conselation (cant spell) I would have probably been more scared than you and handed over the caravan wimpishly

tentmad,  thanks for the warning, put my van in the gazette today so will eagerly await the dodgy phone calls. Blummin vans on the drive as well but luckily the missus is at home permanently at the moment so any messin and they'll have the rottweiler to deal with ;-)

Thanks for the warning. My van's up for sale, I don't live anywhere near Teesside but it is a timely reminder to be very careful when selling as well as buying.
I agree...beware of all thieves and con-merchants...no matter what their accent, ethnic background, or country of birth.

how long do you think it takes to hook up a caravan and be of down the road with it, this woman i phoneing everyone that has a van around the £2000 mark and older than 1993, i wonder why that is?  no crisis documents to worry about so she can flog the van on quicker, thats why, no wheels on van means your van stays there simple as!!!

i continuation to the saga tho, i got a phone call from a man that with held the number on my mobile today, being very careful i answered it, no irish accent then, when he asked if the van was still for sale, so i answered yes, then the irish voice just said so whys it not on the driveway then? they had phoned from outside my mils house and sat there, bloody cheek, i was on the phone to her straightaway and my sister in law had just walked in and had seen 4 men sat in a car that just didnt look right, its was them!!!!!

so we have the extra £100 to give them caled the mobile number to speak to some guy with irish accent who claims that he know s nothing about any of this!!! liar !! of course he does, told him anyway if he knows anyone at all that went to see a caravan at our house then they better contact us soon if they want there money, so far not heard a thing at all.

so you cant say we arent trying to give them the money we just want a quiet life and have just about had enough of this from them and need to move on now but for the life of me short of driving into the site full of gypsies how else am i meant to give them the money back?

Politically incorrect I may be, but an irish accent and an odd story would have got the "Sorry, it's already sold" reply from me.

I would never privately sell a van unless I had to. Dealt with loads of thefts from private ads. They come down, suss out the security and the buyers - then come back and rob it.

If I had to then i would sell it away from it's normal home - tow it to a services to view or to a friends.

Mike's right. The bill of sale would have got amended. The con is - they come back - demand the money back and come back to rob it later. When stopped, or a random check is made on a site - they can show the plod the receipt. Even if you reported it, they have a piece of paper which says they got it fair and square - the police then walk away with a civil, not criminal case. Even saying they got it for £1000 isnt out of the ordinary.

The deposit is to hold it there, get the trust and if stopped during the theft, they can show the bill.

Old con - new angle. B*****ds..

Anyway - take em or leave em but here is a few tips Ive gto from my years locking the toe rags up...

1. When you sell it - "single viewing to be arranged for prospective buyers" is added to the end - pikeys dont want people around as that is witnesses. When a few peopel want to see it, arrange a viewing day somewhere other than its normal home. it is also a clever way to get higher prices if two people want to buy it.

2. Put in the ad - NO CASH - BANKERS DRAFT ONLY - pikeys and thieves rarely have bank accounts so will be put off at this stage - if anyone rings begging you to change - say no but you will knock of £10 for the charges. Nice folk will understand. Remember counterfeit money is on the increase with PC's and scanners and can look very convincing. There is no legal come back with the banks if you accept dodgy cash.

3. When dealing with phone calls (never use a landline - you can always bin a sim card for a £5 new one if you get hassled) - say "My dads in the CID and insists you have two forms of ID and at least 1 is photo ID - as he knows there are some thieves around - no offence" - at that stage the pikeys wont turn up as dad may ID them. Goes the same for druggies and ex-cons. Any nice folk will have a drivers licence as they will have to to tow the van, and its handy in case of come backs you know who you sold it to.

4. When you get the bankers draft, RING the bank to check - dont sell on a weekend or night time for this reason. You can ring the drawing bank and quote the draft number, just say to them it looks funny - they will happily confirm as they are keen to stop dodgy copied drafts. copied drafts are rare however.

5. DONT accept deposits. Why would anyone turn up to buy with just £100. if they want it - they'd have the money. then you dont get into problems when people change their minds. tell them until the bankers draft turns up, its yours to sell. this also prevents you holding onto the van when a better offer comes in.

6. As said, always try and avoid people coming to your home. its not unknown for people to get burgled and the cash taken back as unless its a weekday you may still have the money on you. try and do the transaction at a friend's house or storage area. this may get some buyers edgy but you can always provide ID when the sale is done. this wont avoid theft of the cash (this is why i say use bankers drafts) as they are useless once your name is on them, but then you wont get your security sussed for a revisit to steal the van as they dont know where its kept.

As I say, just ideas. please take care - and remember, nice genuine people wont mind a careful seller and will give you what you want.
