Hi, just wondered if anyone has bought a caravan knowing it was damp? We've been offered a late 80's Ace Viceroy with awning for 350 but it has damp around the front and part of the side. We are always told to avoid the dreaded D word but I can't help thinking it's looking for TLC.

Also, does anyone happen to know the weight of this van?

it all depends on how much time you have on your hands and if you like DIY.

to repair damp is not rocket science in fact its quite easy so long as your not phased easilly. and dont forget you have the knowledge of the fixed it club to fall back on if you do get into a problem.

can you get photos tof the damp before you buy , if so postem on here and we can give a rough idea on it.

I wouldn't be able to get any pics for it but I have spoken to the owner who said it is spongy above the window at the front and at the side near the rear door. She hasn't kept me under any illusions and that it needs repairing but I just keep thinking - DAMP. My oh is handy but it's having the time to do it.

Everything else works fine and the awning is a good one  so I'm in a dilemma. You all make it look so easy to repair - are you visiting the wirral by any chance soon???

Hi,

I have an Abi Ace Viceroy 1986, which had damp in the front corner and also the back of the caravan.  

The back was due to a crack in the plastic strip (what the lights are on).  The front was due to the front window not being sealed properly.

My other half took out the front window and re-bedded it and took off the metal strips along the length of the caravan at the side and the front and re-sealed them with sealant from our caravan shop (like putty).  

The weight is 790kg unladen.  Max 1000 kg laden

Since that it is bone dry.

Picked up new caravan Friday 30/3/07 upgraded to 94 lunar venus same layout, but "posh" cassette toilet etc. and happen to be selling my Viceroy if your interested.  Send me an email.

we have been offered an ace viceroy 4 berth ( 1984). Did you get one after and how are you finding it?

What does it look like ( the one we have been offered is in skegness- so we haven't seen it yet!).
