We have just bought a new Bailey Pageant Betagne and absolutely love it, having scaled down from an Eldiss Elusion which was a bugger to tow. After our first outing we are suffering back ache from the new bed ( other vans have always been second hand!) We have heard of the matress toppers and wondered if anyone has used them?  I thought our bed at home is very hard as I do suffer with lower lumber pain but now it's sore. Please advise!!!

Sorry to hear of your problems. We found exactly the same thing with our new Pageant but it was improved by turning the cushions upside down and using Raskelf toppers. Have now changed to a fixed bed as OH's probs are quite severe. Raskelf a bit more pricey but came recommended by many on this site. More widely available in shops now as well as on line. .

Thanks for that advice, we always turn the cushions but no luck, but I'll have a look at Raskelf.

We bought a mattress topper from Ikea, the Sultan make, middle of the range.
Makes a lot of difference, much more comfy now.
And cheaper than memory foam.

Hi there! I'm interested in this topic as I have a memory foam mattress at home and don't know whatever I did without it for 49 yrs.   Since buying our van (first time vanners) in Sep last year we just returned from our 3rd trip away and feel I really could do with one in the caravan. Can you buy them the right size for caravans or what?

By the way, your back problem will be a thing of the past with a memory foam, believe me. They mould to your body, NOT other way round. I never believed that HARD mattresses were good for the back and proved myself right by getting a memory foam.

We use the same ones and agree with what you say - I think they were £30 each a couple of years ago.

PAM4416 - this link shows that toppers must be available caravan bed size.

http://www.raskelf.com/duvalay.htm

The page you will reach is for their duvets but it does show the beds as having toppers on them.

I'll have to look into this myself as I take my single one with me and fold it so it fits the bed in the van   Actually I quite fancy one of those Duvalays

Jazzycats.

We have decided on a mattress topper for our new Swift fixed bed. We want a memory foam one but don't know whether to get the 1'' 2'' or 3''.Has anybody got the 1'' and found it is comfortable?

Path 20  If you are heavy built go for the two inch ...we tried the one inch but as I am 16st it was no good....now have two inch one on fixed bed and both my wife and I like it and get a good night sleep.
