I've tried salt. It certainly takes moisture out of the air and gets damp. In fact if you leave it long enough you'll end up with a bowl of salty water. However, I tend to feel that whatever is taken out of the air is simply replaced, so you're not achieving a great deal.
My caravan is stored in a barn so it doesn't suffer too much with damp/condensation. I tend to visit it regularly and open it up for a good airing. If it is in your driveway this is so much easier, and you could even put in a heater on very low setting just to keep the air inside dry.
You can use dehumidifiers and crystals but I tend to feel these work the same way as salt and just collect moisture without actually preventing it.
