Somersetsun,
Never had a problem getting a picture with the satelite set up, you will always get a picture as long as you have a clear view of the sky at aprox 145 to 158 degrees magnetic (aprox southeast)
My set up, 80cm dish (clear so unobtrusive, ish) tripod, Pace decoder with freeview card to get chanel 4 & 5 (not yet availble on freeview without a card as both chanels encrypted)
One thing thats not commonly known with the freeview card is that you have to keep using the system, if you pack it away for about 4 weeks, you have to phone sky and get them to reinstate the card, trust me, I found this out the hard way! so now I hook up the sat decoder to my home system for a couple of hours a week.
