I am new to the caravanning scene.

Can I ask some silly questions please!!

1) Can the waste water from the caravan be run straight to a drain on the pitch?  Or do all sites require caravans to run waste water into something like a wastemaster?

2) Can caravans be connected straight to a mains water supply on the pitch?  I have seen seen adapters that run straight from the tap to the where the water pump/water supply plugs in on the caravan.

Or is an aquaroll the best option - perhaps with a ball balve filling it from the tap?

Views appreciated!

Hi there and welcome to the madhouse!

I have yet to see pitches on a site with drains...if only!
Also, as most site's only have a few taps here and there and lots of holiday-makers.. it is not really practicle and quite possibly not allowed to connect up a hose pipe and fill your water containers that way. An Aquaroll and a Wastemaster unfortunately are the only sensible things to use to get and remove water from your pitch.

(judging from the reply below, i stand corrected, there *are* such pitches it seems, the wife and i must be visiting the lower classes of campsites)

all depends on the site and the pitch, if you book a fully serviced pitch then you can connect straight to the main water tap and run your waste stright to the drain, but not all sites have these facilities so then a aquaroll and waste master would be needed but best to check with the site you intend to book with ,hope this helps

Yep we can connect straight to a tap and also run the waste into a drain as we have a serviced pitch for all our breaks this year.  I just need to get the correct hoses and Bob's your Uncle!

Hi Madman and welcome to the site (and caravanning!).
The majority (I think) of sites are as Grub says - all that I have been to are like that, but there are sites - possibly increasing in number - that have what are called serviced or fully-serviced pitches. Apparently these have individual waste water drains/points/ call them whatever, individual freshwater supply and individual electric point. I have heard that one or two even have TV aerial sockets mounted in the electric supply box as well, but of course these serviced pitches do come at a higher price.
Aquaroll and wastemaster (or similar) are probably the best to go for, as these service pitches are still relatively rare - sites that have them will almost certainly highlight this facility, so if they're not listed, the site won't have them!

When using serviced pitches we run a hose to an adaptor fitted to our water hog.  This way there isn't a problem with water pressures and there isn't any way of flooding the van.  ( I don't know if that is a possibility)

We have been on a few serviced pitches.  You will need a long waste hose to run to the drain and I would suggest the Aquaroll mains kit or similar home made one, much safer than the direct plug-in type as Brian said.

Why do "newbies" think they are asking "silly" questions.  If we all thought our questions were silly, we would probably be the dumbest people on the earth.  I always think a question is asked by a person who is intelligent enougyh to query an issue.  The dummies are the ones that do not ask questions.

Madmand your questions were rational and the answers were probably interesting to others who may be too timid to ask.
