I have just bought my first caravan and found towing very interesting! I have fitted an alko 3004 hitch instead of the bog standerd hitch to stop me needing the toilet every time a bus passes me at 300 miles an hour. Would a stabiliser bar help the van from moving as much, even though i have fitted the alko 3004

I contacted Alko on this topic and they said that it was not permitted to use 2 stabilisers as the tow ball was not designed to take the load.

And it would not add to safety. A good stabiliser will do its job. The Alko 3004 is a very good one. You need just stabilising, or rather mitigate, movements, not a rigid car-van connection.

It might be better to investigate the loading and weighting of the van to improve stability.

Our van was very twitchy when we collected it from the dealers because it was so light, especially the noseweight, but now that it has some weight in the right places, it tows very smoothly even when 'white-van-man' blasts past us.
