I am just about to buy a 1982 Esterel folding caravan. The roof was repainted by the current owner a while back, but the paint is starting to crack and flake here and there. She used a UVPC paint. How should I go about re-painting it, any suggestions? Should I rub it down competely, or just lightly, with sandpaper... or what? And what kind of paint should I use to repaint it... is Dulux Weathershield undercoat + gloss a good option? I noticed on another noticeboard that someone had used it to paint a fibreglass boat hull. Does anyone have any experience of re-painting a fibreglass caravan?

Also inside the caravan the walls are covered in a sort of plastificised wallpaper - it's pretty grimy and dull - grimy and greasy probably from cooking inside 'van. What should I clean it with, and can I repaint it using ordinary emulsion, to brighten it up?

Apart from that it is a GREAT and weird little caravan, my first. Any odd tips about the Esterel gratefully received.

You really want to rub the paint right back to the grp and then apply a grp primer before top coating it - I've heard lots of good things about Plastikote - you can get it in B&Q. Dulux will just peel off again after a short while.

The plasticised wall paper is vinyl and will clean up very well with Mr Muscle or similar and yes you won't be the first to use emulsion on it

Oh yes welcome to the forum
