whilst away at Easter I opened the door on our Rose Countess oven and the handle assembly that also holds the 2 glass panels in place disintegrated!, OH repaired it with some form of epoxy putty and it's holding together for now but, is there any chance of obtaining a replacement do you think bearing in mind the van is from 1994?
There used to be a 'fit all' handle on sale at caravan shops, basically a moulded piece of heat resistant plastic angle, this you trimmed to fit your oven door and screwed into place using the original screws.
It actually works very well and looks smart enough, the only thing I don't know is if they are still available?
If anyone comes across this heat proof angle that Gary talks about, could they post on here with the source. The handle on my oven is getting to the point where it could do with replacing. I'll worry about how to get it here once I know it's available.
Thanks
No chance from the original supplier I'm afraid, they have 'retired', only chance is a dealer who has one on the shelf.
All it was was a piece of plastic angle the same width as the thickness of the oven door. The front side that shows was then tapered up to each corner leaving just enough to catch and cover the corners of the glass. The middle bit was left about 4" wide at the full depth and rolled outward to form the handle.
I think the same thing could easily be made from a piece of 2 or 3mm thick Aluminium angle and a Sunday morning shaping it. Theres plenty of heat proof paint about should you not like a plain alloy finish. Only thing that worries me is if it gets to hot, in which case I would not roll the angle outward but leave it straight down and screw a separate handle to it.
