We have just negotiated £975 off our new Swift Challenger 540 plus £100 off a new Bradcot awning, don't be shy just ask, as the old northern saying goes shy boys get no broth.  I dont know if this works with part exchange we have sold our current swift privatly.

Its well worth haggling. I always do, on cars and caravans! We take delivery of our Fleetwood Heritage in a couple of weeks and managed to get £2250.00 discount for no trade-in.

Similar discount off our last one too, 3yrs ago. Seems to be the going rate on twin axles!

Morning all - we had no part ex and got £1500 off the price of a new Elddis Odyssey 544 fixed bed plus a starter pack. We also got a mover - tilt alarm system, mag wheels, spare wheel, status 530 aerial cd/radio. All in we have paid just over £14,500 on the road. I know its a lot of money but it was by far the best deal we had been able to get after visiting at least 8 major retailers and it was more importantly the van we liked the most.

Cheers

I spoke to a dealer earlier in the week as i'm looking to buy an Elddis Avante 556 later this year or early next year. Told him i would have no part ex he offered to drop the delivery charge and a bit more??? based on that i would presume another £500. Would it be wise to play the dealers of each other then buy at one of the shows.

Do the shows discount even more ???

I purchased a new Discovery in 2005, the dealer said they would not discount the discovery but could do £400 off all the others. I tried to haggled for a Battery, wastemaster and aqua roll, The dealer said no so I walked away, when I got home there was a call I had missed from him , Surprise surprise he had changed his mind.

Moral of the story, dont be to hasty, they will try to play chicken with you so walk away as you  can always go back to them the next day. Yes Bailey can sell all of the vans they make especially the Ranger and Discovery, but at the end of the day your local dealer would rather have a sale and lose a bit than let another dealer have the sale.

Not necessarily, but you can walk from one dealer rep to another, showing them the written quotes you have been given by their competitors and working a deal from there.

At the shows, each of the big manufacturer's stands is manned by salespeople from dealerships all around the country.  Therefore, you would normally end up talking to your own local dealerships on the stand (i.e. the ones you will take your van back to for servicing etc).

For example, we were looking at models manufactured by Swift Group, so we negotiated with our two nearest Swift Group dealers, until we got what we wanted.

There is a huge 'buzz' associated with buying at a show!  I know its not exactly celebrity treatment, but you do feel good drinking your complimentary champers in the 'Buyers Lounge'

They usually won't haggle on the screen price, but will fiddle what they offer you on the part x deal on your existing van.
