 I see lots of sattelite finders on ebay but the prices vary from under a fiver to £30  or more can anyone share with me which ones they have purchased from ebay and which ones are satifactory.  I would be obliged for info

Thats the way I understand it too!

I use one like this HERE along with the instructions HERE which are invaluable.

Try aligning it in your garden a few times before you need it on site. Once you get used to it, it can be done in a few minutes.

I've had hit & miss success in setting up satellite ... sometimes very quick & sometimes can take ages ... Even with a strong signal showng on sat finder  ... Since going couple weeks ago & having a bit of a "mare" getting a "locked"picture i have read numerous pages across the net ... Piece of advice i will be trying is .. once strong signal found then to turn off the box for a minute so it can reset its internal meter & then turn back on can sometimes make the difference ... apparantly

 Thanks for to all who replied.  I was thinking of buying the one at Lidle's on Thursday if there is enough to go round.    I trust this information is relevent to this outfit as well as the sky system ?     Brian T

I have an analogue sat finder, rarely use it, just rely on compass bearing, 99% of the time I have no problem tuning in. Usually if I have a problem tuning in it is because the up and down angle is wrong. The dish should be almost vertical and in the highlands even appears to point slightly to the ground. Just get a compass and set the bearing at 150 degrees (this varies slightly as you move around the country but it is close enough) and move the dish slowly form side to side, no luck, shift the up and down angle a bit. It,s a bit like riding a bike, suddenly its dead easy and you wonder what all the fuss is about. The link is some info on the lidl system. If you buy the lidl system my advice is set it up at home. Just plug it in your  sky dish, the default language is German and the satellite default is German. Switch default language to English and the satellite default to Astra 28 and hey presto it works. Then move BBC1 your area to channel 1, BBC 2 to channel 2 etc, all this takes 20 minutes, it retains the changes permanently and your ready to go.
