We have a Mondeo 3ltr v6, we haven't bought a caravan yet but was wondering if it was going to be extremely thirsty towing a fairly large 6 berth van?

Has any one else got the same car and if so what's it like as a towing car?

Don't know about your car, but we used to tow with a 3.2 vauxhall frontier, it only did 21 to the gallon normally and it did the same when towing. So your car will probably not be that much more thirsty when towing.

Well I've got a 99 2.5 auto version and it was doing 19mpg towing 1300kg, however I've since had a new alternator fitted and solo mileage as gone up or is that down 2-3mpg!!

Seems the old alternator must have been a bit stiff to turn?? but I won't know how good it is towing until Whit and a trip down the M5.

I guess it will make an excellent tow car. Unfortunately it will be thirsty! It will be a bit better in the fuel department than my 4.0 litre V6 Ford which does anything from 12mpg to 18mpg towing. As a rough guide it will be 25% more thirsty when towing compared to running solo.

3 litre V6 ....ouch yes it will be thirsty. my mate has a v8 supercharged Jag and gets around 16 mpg so hopefully wont be that bad !!!
