Got a porch awning with my new (used) caravan. Only used full awning before.
me and OH put porch awning on, fed right hand side down awning rail, but it looked crooked and the other side of the porch awning went right down the middle of our kitchen window, therefore making it unable to open.
Should porch awnings stand in the centre of the caravan, positioned inbetween windows?????
I dont think it was right but OH insists that it wouldnt have awning feed for nothing!!
Hmmmmmm tricky one this....'where does the porch awning go'? Hmmmmm.....liccle suggestion.......
On the tin tent??????
We haven't used one of these before either but are considering investing in a cheapy one sometime soon as hubby's finally making rumblings about the possibility of us actually getting our beloved tin tent out of storage for more than just it's usual 2 pathetic weeks each year! Needless to say, we don't really wanna be bothering about with the full size jobby just for a couple of days at a time, but do appreciate the mud stoppage traipsing in lark that some kind of awning gives us, especially as he's even talking about.....pooch with us!!!!!!!
You have no idea how tickled and excited I am at the prospect of not only getting more than two iccle weeks in our lovely tin tent but also that we won't have to leave dear pooch in the clutches of my dozy Mum alllllll the timeFor those of you, who know my situation visa vie 81 year old mother and her Alzheimers...you'll KNOW what a bonus THIS will be
I have noticed though that these porches just seem to around whichever bit the doors on! Also seen them on the other side of the vans too being used for extra storage and they never look wonky...........
I'll be watching this thread to see all the sensible answers in anticipation of us getting one too
Only...gulp.......TWO days till we zoom off to Mauritius.....minus tin tent......

Most porches, as far as I'm aware, only fit into the awning rail along the top and not down the sides. They usually have poles & pads at the sides to protect the van.
Of course the positioning on the side of the van depends on the layout of doors and wndows that you have. The caravan door is the main guide, since you want to include this and allow for it to open fully! and then the next criteria is to avoid crossing windows with it.
It can be difficult if you have a van with the door near the front end of the van, and sometimes you will see that the only way to fit a porch on this type of van is to cut across a window, as its not feasible to fit it where the front end of the van starts to slope.
We have the Ultima 390 porch awning and put it up this weekend for the first time. We were on a concrete hard standing so it could not seal properly against the side of the van as the inside corner pegs actually go under the caravan. It does only go into the top rail and you can slide it from side to side so it does not block windows and is at the door opening. We were quite impressed with ours. Good extra space for not a lot of money.
We've got a Base Camp Panorama (or something like that) - we bought it for weekends and out of season times when we wouldn't want to bother with the full Isabella awning.
It just slots into the awning rail at the top and, just like MickeyM's, can then slide back and forth on the 'van to suit. We had it slightly closer to the opening side of the door than we'd really have liked but otherwise it would have cut down a window. As this is one of the tent style with just the 3, flexible, lightweight poles, though, there was no danger to the window so it wouldn't be such a disaster if this happened.
Porch awning is just big enough for a couple of chairs (or would have been if we hadn't forgotten to take them ! Never mind - let's see what this weekend brings! Hope you figure out the best place for yours, Donna122.

I've bought an Outdoor Revolution Easy porch, very good, but I should have thought about it a bit more first. This Porch Awning is 8 ft wide and therefore needs a section of awning rail horizontal to the ground for at least 8ft. Of course my Elf with its sloping roof at the front is not suitable. I will either have to put up with one flappy side wall, or convince OH that she is a genius with sewing machine.
We have a base camp 260 and is great for weekends, lightweight also. The position is really up to you and the shape / layout of your van - ours fits over the side window and the door so provides excellent privacy and light if you open the black out blinds. We like it as it gives the feel of space and is easy to put up etc... We easliy get two high backed chairs and a table in the awning and still enough room for the dog and kids to walk by / open the end / caravan door etc..
Our was a bargain at 89 pounds from Swindon Caravan centre. We did consider the three panel section usually called the "390" but it would not fit properly due to the shape of the awning rail.
