Can anyone recommend good rectangular bags please? .....looking to do weekend camping in the UK over the summer. I have a 5 and a 3 yr old ...any 'bag' advice for these two would be appreciated too.
I think I can't stand the 'snugness' of a mummy bag. The feeling of being strangled by your own clothes wrapped around up as many times as you twist and turn through the night might just drive me insane.
If you just want ordinary zip up sleeping bags-Argos is as good as any, they do kids ones as well, take a couple of fleece blankets to chuck on top if the night gets cool-should be ok for summer--

I always recommend Millets for sleeping bags. They do a good range, are usually very helpful and fairly cheap.
I don't know about the kids but for an adult (and after trying several including a mummy bag ) I went for one they call a 'Kingsize single' 2 season. Very large and square and warm. Plenty of room to squirm about.
When we started camping (we now have a caravan) we soon realised that our sleeping bags were not cut out for outdoor sleeping - the temp varied thoughout the night from being too hot to shivering cold. They also felt damp underneath from condensation (this was prob why we felt chilly at times).
Anyway did a bit of research and decided to invest in much more expensive ones and I have to say, I think you do get what you pay for. Ours are extremely lightweight but keep a constant temp - they are a delight to snuggle into. We now use them in our caravan.
Not cheap at 2 for £210 - (I hear you gasp!) - but they will last us forever, and were well worth investing in.
i agree with the above i we have a 5 and 6 year old and they love camping but if the kids anint comfortable your trip will be spoiled.buy good 3-4 season sleeping bags because if you are to hot you can open it up but if your cold your knackered. although some sleeping bags millet sells are quite good for summer camping it's just the british weather can sometimes be very very dodgey
New van - decided to make it easier and get sleeping bagsa. well went to CCC and bought 2 bags for £15.00. last night tested them out and they were OK. 2 season, and quite good!!
Not so much sleeping bag advice, but we always use old duvet covers as sleeping bag liners. Polycotton ones stop that sweaty feeling you can get, and are quick and easy to wash, also cheaper than commercial sleeping bag liners which tend to be a bit skimpy.
