When we were ready to leave OH hooked the van up, we checked the lights etc. OH then went to mens room so I thought right lets get in the drivers seat and move this baby. I did not go far but towed the van round to the exit and waited for OH and towed it down the road for a bit. I hadn't quite got the mirrors right so could not see as well down the road as I wanted. As I did not feel confidant about adjusting the mirrors on the move I pulled over and let OH drive the rest of the way home. Will have another go soon. I really just wanted to get a feel for it and see how the car felt with the van on the back. Part of the problem was I knew we had to go round a busy roundabout and get on the A1. Next time I think I will go for a straight run down the A1 or a motorway first. I still feel quiet proud for having ago though.
well done, just keep at it and before you know it you'll be towing. I think I was lucky in the fact that there's only me to drive and tow so was thrown in at the deep end and I love it, expecially now I've cracked the reversing

I found reversing simple. I put it down to playing with toy cars with caravans and lorries as a kid. The physics of it came naturally, just had to try to judge the length. It's the going forward thing that I found stressful.
I think the feel of towing is great its a fantastic achievement, for male and females. I towed our van last season, and loved it, not had a go yet this year, hubby has jumped in the driving seat first.
Many congratulations!! It does give you a bit of a buzz when you manage it, doesn't it? Now just keep having a little practice and soon you'll be ready for a whole trip on your own!
I still find reversing to be the tricky part. I just have to take it slow and steady until I manage it. And if it doesn't go right the first time, I just pull forward and have another go. It took three attempts to get the caravan back up on the drive after our last trip - but who cares, it got there in the end!!
Yes I can tow but my problem is the A1 I just dont like the throught of towing on it or any motorway come to that. I am O.K. towing on normal road Hubbys says just do it the more you do it the easy it becomes
Way to go girl! Congratulations, I'm not fond of motorway towing , I do it - OH rarely comes with us so I don't have a choice & reversing - UGH ! Like most things the more you do the easier it gets. Keep at it and your confidence will soon grow.
MY OTHER HALF DONT GET A CHOICE NOW AS I GOT BANNED FOR SPEEDING SHES BEEN TOWING FOR 3 MONTHS NOW sorry about the caps kiddi playing with keyboard but she finds it ok
Thanks for all your comments and encouragement. I have to get there as OH does not want to do all the driving when we go to Scotland in September. I rather like driving so this is just another skill to add. As for reversing I can always cheat and use the mover.
