Hi Guys

I have an Abbey GT212 with a carver 1800 heater fitted. My problem is that the heater does not want to work full blast for reasons I know not of.

When I start the heater I can see the flame in the wee window and when I release the knob and turn it up the flame only gets a tiny bit bigger. My friend says that when his heater the same model is on full blast it makes a roaring noise where as my heater does not do this

At the moment I am running a propane gas bottle and I was wondering that if I change this over to butane would this make any difference due to bar pressure?...

All advice appreciated...

Colzie

Depends on if your mates van is bigger than yours? Carver fitted three different jet bars to this fire to suit different van sizes. That's one reason, another is the jets are partially blocked giving the same effect as would a lasy yellow flame rather than pure blue as it should be. The gas valve itself unless tampered with will not give this problem. Of course if your mates has been played about with? it could be his is the one not working correctly!

Although butane gives out more heat for a given amount of gas burnt, the higher pressure propane is delivered at actually gives it the slightest edge in a race. As far as we are concerned though, they are the same so that's not the problem unless the regulators faulty.

Just had a look in the book at this fire, the plain Carver 1800 as opposed to any other model of 1800 has it's gas valve half way down the side of the fire. The problem is the valve gets hot, if the grease dries out it gets stiff it won't fully open or the dry grease can block the valve slightly. Also the plastic connection to the valve can give trouble if it gets mis-shaped and slips, so most of the problems are jamming on while hot and not a lack of heat!
