it is not law to register with CRIS but agree with avondale it should have numbers etched on the windows.post 1992 all caravans but imports were registered with CRIS,a few small manufactures of hand built vans did not sign up.

Is their any evidence of the etched Vin number in the bottom right corner of all the windows? are there holes where the Vin plate was attached to the wall above the door?
The Vin number is also stamped on the chassis, on Alko chassis's it's on the top face of the offside 'A' frame leg just in front of the body.
I would definately reccomend that you register the van with cris. We have bought an import and had to register and etch it ourselves. There is also a tracker device you install. Cost less than £40.00, so to us it is worth it as it gave us a reduction on our insurance.
thanks for that ,their is a plate above door but that only has the weights on it, i will phone cris and register it ,but their are no numbers or marks were numbers could have been rubbed off windows ,i thought this caravaning was going to be fun it just one problem after another.
Might it be worth your brother checking back with his friends to see if they could dig out the paperwork, or provide some history? Have you found the chassis VIN number yet? It will be fun but like any hobby, we tend to learn as we go along. Its more than worth it though.
