I'm glad I found this thread. We have a folding camper and the main reason for that is the beds are always made up, I was going to put a post on this section asking what most people do for sleeping arrangements ie; make beds up or just put sleeping bags on top of seating areas. Have been looking at caravans and the thing that  puts us off is the making up of beds. I tend to go to bed early and get up early and the wife goes to bed late and gets up late. Have looked at fixed beds and as people have said you seem to loose out on space in general, one of the things I thought about is a 4 berth where there's a double bed at the back of the van, this could be made up permanently. As our children now dont want to holiday with us old fogies there is just the two of us. Any comment on this would be appreciated. Thanks for reading this.

ONCE YOU HAVE TRIED.................. dont think you would ever go bak - the mattress on ours was so good 5 " thick we ended up buying a new mattress at home !!!!!!!!! the storage is also fantastic , not to metion the outside flaps so you can put awning and ground sheet straight in without dragging though the caravan

love ours to bits ............... if only we could get the tv to work  lol

We must have missed that one Louise. We looked at most island beds. We didn't look at Lunar because we had just got rid of a Lunar Meteorite that had bad damp problems. Saying that we had two Lunars back in the 90's and we had no problems.I thought the finish and quality of them were really good.Still we are happy with our Challenger up to yet.

We have a pennine folding camper with fixed beds and electric under blankets  to pre warm the beds before geting in.This is just about the perfect set up for us,and there is no way we would change to make up beds,I dont think I could go through the ritual of moving slats and cussions every night before going to bed.Ive heard people say that it only takes a couple of minutes to make the bed up ,but its still second best and its still not a proper bed, after all a good nights sleep is all important.

Yep, fixed bed for us from now on - only got our first this year and there will be no going back!

Yes, it means we have a slightly smaller washroom at the side of the bed but, as we only use the loo, that's not a problem.  We'd like more workspace in the kitchen but that's the only downside to our Avante 534 - there's only the two of us plus two dogs and a truckload of photography gear.

Once we're pitched, the under-bed storage space just swallows up everything we throw at it, the wardrobe and side shelves are plenty big enough for most of our clothes, and there are four large over-bed lockers for any others.  More overhead and underseat lockers at the front, and we can both stretch out very comfortably on the front "bench" seats - that was the other thing we particularly looked for - our caravan is an escape so, when we're not walking dogs or taking photos, we can relax completely!

As others have said, it is all down to personal choice but I'm glad we made the one we did - wish I was there now instead of thinking about being back in the office in 11 hours!! [:(]
