We covered ours last year as the van came with a cover so why not use it. Bit of a pain to put on but it came out glistening whereas everybody else was scrubbing their vans for hours getting all the green off the roof etc.
We will definitely put it on again this winter.

welcome too, good and bad, some love them and with good reason they keep the van dry and clean.the top ones are breathable material.others hate them ,putting them on,scratching windows, removing paint on corners, not able to tie down fully,so you pays your money and takes your chance with a cover.see
Hi There. We had a cover made a for our previous caravn by Purpleline - cost almost £300! We then bought a standard one for just under £100 from Towsure! Yes it was a little bit trickier to fit on but what a saving! Covers are well worth it in my opinion and whichever one you buy at whatever price it will protect yuour van
We bought ours on Ebay for £60. It's breathable and has proved one of the best things we have bought. We put it on whenever the van is at home, all the year round. It keeps the van pristine (as long as it's clean when you put it on!), stops green algae forming, sticky stuff from trees dropping on the roof and keeps the weather out (being an older van this is particularly helpful as I don't have to worry about any rain seeping in anywhere). It's so easy when you take the van out - no more cleaning the day before!
I would thoroughly recommend buying one, as long as it's breathable. Certainly don't buy one of those polythene types you see covering cars!
thank you to everyone concerning caravan covers, wasnt many against them except awkward putting on,will certainley be getting one from towsure in oct.thank you all again...mike and judy
Hi there - bit of a laet reply but we got our cover from Barrons when we got the van, After washing and polishing our van my husband and I spent a good hour putting the cover on for the first time, although we spent the first 20 mins trying to decide which bit was the front! We got it in the end. The cover is breathable and has zippers on each corner so that you can work on the front windows with the scratch remover or pack the van ready for a trip without totally removing the cover. This is great for us as we have a tree at the end of our drive which drops sap, leaves and creepy crawly bugs all year round. It's also good for keeping the sunlight out of the van, because the cover is on you don't need to leave the blinds down (which sprains the springs) and you don't need to close the curtains ( there will always be that chink of light that gets in somewhere and bleaches the edge of the curtains or the upholstery) but on a good sunny day enough light shines through the cover so that you can see inside if you are packing for a journey. Call me crazy, but I start packing the van about a week in advance so that I am not washing and ironing just before a trip!
Apologies for waffling on

So the breathable ones are the way to go? I had heard that they caused problems by preventing moisture escaping. But with so many positive replies that will defininately be something to consider.
Interestingly I asked the same question last year. Almost every reply said they were a waste of money, they keep moisture trapped between them and the caravan and promote damp problems. My van is in a yard with about 150 others. None have a cover, despite being various ages and conditions. Even the new expensive ones are uncovered. I expect there is a reason.

I use one that is so so easy to put on by myself, it doesnt chaff the paintwork and never comes loose. you can put it on in a heavy gale all by yourself and if you want too you can tow your caravan with it on and not worry about it getting blown off
it is of course Fenwicks caravan over wintering that I use. I did consider a cover but found O.W. so easy to use and washes off a treat in the spring.
I always like reading threads about Caravan Covers, we use a Cover, the reason being shortly after buying the van we have at present. i was washing it and i noticed the rail above the 3 front windows the sealant was parting company from the van, on further investigation out of the 18. Screws that should have been fitted only 11.Were actually drilled ???? My next thought was i wonder what other areas are missing screws hence why use a Cover ?????
We bought a Protec made to measure cover for our caravan, cost just over £300 and we were very pleased with it, its breathable, and it is one of the covers which Bailey say are not detrimental to the caravans, and we were really glad we did, it has a velcro opening by the door, so that you can go and check the inside, and everytime we went, we could see all the other caravans looking green and filfhy! It gave us a really good feeling as we could see our van was pristine underneath.
