Hello People me again, i now have all i need to move into the realms of Satellite T.V. Just looking for a several dry days this week to try this out. As i haven't got the Caravan nearby can any one tell me the diametre of the jockey wheel shaft as i've heard people fixing the Dish on here Thanks Conqueror.
The clamp on my dish is pretty versatile. I have clamped it to awning poles and the jockey wheel. I have the Maplin one, but the Aldi one is the same. The dish is light weight too. The clamp is comparable to a G clamp. I would guess the jockey wheel at around 40mm, but like you, my van is not local.

thats all very nice but unless you are allways going to point your jockey towards the sat which is south south east you wont get a signal unless you plan to elavate above the height of the van.which is then prone to getting a wobble on in the wind and loosing the signal,a steel tube with a angle on it driven into the ground is ample with the clamps provided in the sat packs and can be generally be hidden or sheltered from weather.no need for a £50 tripod or bracket
Interesting Threads, i assume you can't pick up the Astra satellite that's required then, working off the jockey wheel for stability, that is because the van blocks the path of the sat learning all the time, Many Thanks Conqueror.
the sat dish needs to point south south east for the astra sat with an elevation of between 20/30 degree,on our van the sat dish is behind the van pointing towards the hedge, very easy to set up between too of you. sat dish needs a clear view of the the sky to get a signal.no use setting up next to a forest and pointing towards 36 ft trees as you wont get a signal, the portable sat packs include a g clamp, suction mount and can also be fixed in the box it comes in.here is a helpful site on sat faq
The Lidl/Maplins kit has a handy sucker foot mount as said which goes great on the roof and avoids people walking past it and is easier to locate the satellite. I have my lnb connected and marked with elevation etc, then all I have to do is pop it on the roof (I use my steps against the wall of the van) and move it left and right until I hear the happy beep from the box. Then screw the suckers up and bingo...
I have a tripod which is handy but you cant beat a roof mount for security and stabilty.
To answer your question conq - you have to have line of sight - all sat owners know when they choose the pitch to make sure they havent got trees very close in case thats where Astra is!
Many thanks to everyone for their views on this matter my heads buzzing ! tomorrow i'am putting the van up on the C.L. and hopefully getting to grips with things Conqueror.
