Hi

After many years out of caravanning with parents we have tried it again with a 2 and 3 year old in tow.

We dragged out the old 1978 muscateer super sprite from the shed it was retired in and have decided we need something better... well wife has!

Searched around the web and looked in on a dealer and have come up with the Lunar Quasar 615  as a perfect for us solution (130 hp diesel galaxy to tow with)

It has rear side bunks which are great but side washroom, will we regret the side washroom in favour of shutting away the kids is the question???

Also any other comments/ advice on our choice would be welcome before i pay out cash.

i have 3 kids aged 3,4 and 6,i bought a quasar 615 in march and cannot fault it,it's a great van with loads of space. The way i look at it is that something has to be sacrificed, yes i'd like a larger washroom but i'd rather be able to put the kids in bed and close them off and relax on a night. The benefit of being able to leave the bunks set up and letting the kids have their own space far outweighs having a small washroom in my opinion. If we want any privacy to get changed we just slide the door across and use it as a changing area.Ours has removable carpets which is a big plus point with a family if you end up on a muddy field. The newer models also have a slighlty larger shower area at the expense of some cupboard space, again i prefer the practicality of the cupboard space. It also has plenty of work space which is something a lot of other vans never had, some didn't even have a draining board. It's also lightweight for it's size but is in my opinion solidly built, good strong cupboard fronts and proper hinges.I'm 6"4 and very heavy handed and i've not broken anything yet and i've spent 28 nights in the van already.

Hi there,

If I could afford it I'd go for the Lunar Quasar 615. I have 4 children, 2 who caravan with us regularly & 2 occasionally. We have a 5 berth with the double at the back & bunk over but there is not a lot of head room either under the bunk or on it.

I saw the Quasar and decided it was an ideal solution and a lovely van, fixed bunks at the side for the younger 2 and the bed on the other side for one of the older ones (or if we get the 6 berth there'll be room for both, otherwise pup tent).

Ours has a sliding door to close the end bedroom off and I really like this, especially if they wake up early, they can amuse themselves whilst we doze on!

Not too fussed about having a huge washroom, however I think it has a seperate shower room which would be nice.

I'd go for it!

Thanks for the replies and that explains a query i had with the washroom.

I have looked at some on ebay and thought the washroom looked smaller than current models, when did they remove a cupboard to fit the extra shower space?

We got it!

We ended up buying brand new as the extra shower section is important to us and  secondhand versions seem too expensive considering the extras that have been added in the last 3 years. (must hold value well?)

The galaxy seems to have no problems towing it and does not need extra mirrors.

Suzanne

I take it the dealer has one??

I could only find one at a dealer within 100 miles of me and it was the one we bought, no secondhand ones at all, but there was two 3 year old ones on ebay with the old wash room setup.

Hi Suzanne

Go to Campbells in Preston, they are located next to the Lunar factory and will have access to any vans that are available, they do a good deal too. We changed to the Quasar 615 last October, after seeing inside a neighbouring van on the site we are pitched, it was a very good move for 2 + 2, although we use our shower as extra storage space. Good luck.

Mick
