My van is sited on a site with no elec so we use 12volt to power the van, is there any way anyone can think of for helping to keep the van cooler in the hot summer months?
I have an Inverta but don't like to use it a lot as the battery might run out and I don't like to run a generator much as there too noisy.
Is there a 12 volt air con or any type of 12 volt or battery cooler any one knows of?
I do pull the blinds down, but the main reason I want this is because I take my cat with me and when it's hot like today I can't go as I couldn't take her in this heat?
Roof vents open, blinds down, is the best you can do really. Fans tend to move the air around, but don't really cool it. My cats always looked for the warmest place in the house, and loved to lie on a windowsill with the sun streaming in on them - but they will move if it gets too hot. If you do use a fan, make sure you have a frozen freezer pack in front of it, as this will cool the air a little bit. But I don't think I'd worry too much about the cats not liking it.
With the windows & roof vents open, blinds down on the sunny side, our caravan doesn't really get that warm, even on very hot sunny days. The light colour reflects the suns rays and the insulation keeps the heat out.

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.
Hi Col could you consider taking a cage with you for the cat and putting it outside in the shade during the hotter times of day..........you could also put a towel or something on the top so that the sun isn't streaming down on the cat.....that way the cat would get fresh air and any breezes that are blowing..........or was you more thinking of the times you wanted to go out as obv you would have to keep an eye on the cat if you did try that.............making sure that the cat is happy and OK and also watching out for dogs.
When I say a cage I mean one of those large ones that you use for dogs, so that the cat has a lot of room to move about.

Thanks everyone for the replies never thought of using an ice block in front of the fan that will work well in an evening if its warm as I have a battery fan which is quite a good one.
Hey Nette I got her a harness and long lead and a lock down thing so she can stay outside with me in the sun, just don't want the van too hot for her in an evning, she is a big fluffy thing lol but the ice block would help :)
I am getting a big cage for when the site is busy incase of dogs
It always seems to be cool in the lockers under our front seats - if you have drop-down fronts to these lockers, could you manage to empty one so the cat has a cool retreat on the warmer evenings?
