Hi, Back in 2005 there was a Topic  posted  by Mrs T, as follows-

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We have a new Swift Lifestyle 555 (based on Swift Charisma 555). The kitchen lockers and the two large ones in end bed area have hinges which are supposed to keep the locker doors up whilst in use.  After only a few weeks use, the hinges no longer work and we need to hold the doors up with one hand whilst putting stuff away which is a real nuisance.  I rang our supplier (Barrons) who said that this was not a common complaint yet I cannot believe that ours is the only caravan affected in this way.  They said taht they would order new parts but we would need to return old hinges and if Swift said there was nothing wrong with them, we would have too pay for them! We only bought the caravan new in June!  Has anyone else had problems!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a well known ongoing problem that Swift has been trying to rectify since at least 2005, we purchased ours in April 2005.

We are still struggling to have this problem solved. Has anyone else had any success, if so how was the problem rectified

Regards, Dave

We have just part exed our Swift Charisma, we found the same problem with the hinges and the doors had to be held open with one hand otherwise they would shut automatically.

To be honest it was a pain, not very easy putting things away!

The other problem we had was the cooker didn't work but we had that fixed when it had its service last month.

We now have a Lunar Solaris and is much better quality and the cupboards stay open. Bliss

My reply to Anthea with the same problem, as below..

Hi Anthea, We also had the hinges tension adjusted which as you know did not last. Then the hinges were replaced with the so called modified version which looked the same and still had the same problem. We have now been told that Swift have recommended that an extra hinge (total 3 hinges) are fitted to each door. Before  we go ahead with this third  rectification, we are hoping that someone can verify that this modification has been a success.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi there

Our van is a 2005 lifestyle 555, and we too have the same problem.  They re tensioned the hinges on the van's first service, but they soon weakened again meaning we too have to hold them up when using them.

Having just booked the van in for its 2nd service, I queried the locker hinges with them, and if I want them to, they are willing to change the hinges to a modified version, but they will make very little difference according to the chap in the service Dept.  (Barrons York).  Anything is worth a go though eh?

Feel free to contact me should you need further info from me if you're trying to build up a case.

Regards,

Anthea

hi , we have an abbey vogue and have the same problem. we were told that as the hinges heat up they become less effiecient and the cupboard lid falls down. We took our caravan in and got the dealer to tighten all the hinges last year. Still dropping down in hot weather tho!

Hi,  Thanks Kathy, read both of your postings, just what I wanted to hear, I can now go ahead with the upgrade extra hinge knowing that they do work this time.

Thanks again for all your help, Dave
