Hi All - I am new to this forum - in fact I'm new to the caravan scene full stop.

I have just purchased a new Elddis Odyssey 544 and am due to pick it up next week.

I have searched across the board for insurance from the CC to Wise etcetera.

During this search I came across the above company. The staff appeared to be very friendly with high levels of knowledge. The yearly premium is £284 plus a £50 excess per claim (value of the van is £15,500). Cover is comprehensive and includes a new for old for 10 years, Loss of use up to £1,500 per year, continental cover for 180 days, personal accident cover plus a £2 million PL and it is underwritten by Zurich!

Now this is the rub - the second best quote I had was from Swinton but it only had a 5 year new for old - the price was only £9.00 more exspensive. The CC was £480 with a 3 year new for old and a £200 excess, Sage was a waste of time!!

Anyway what are your thoughts on this?

I would really appreciate your collective input with your far greater depth of knowledge and understanding in this area.

Cheers

Pazza

Pazza,

Getting insurance is a form of gambling.

You are betting that for the money you give them, you wont make a claim (and they're hoping the same!!!)

The only time you will find out if the Co. are any good is when you make a claim.

If the claim is justified, and at this point I have to say that I like the £1500 non use clause and the 10yr new for old, then go for it. Why should you pay £160 for the pleasure? of insuring through CC. Like I said, its a form of gambing but at 40% extra not that much of a gamble.

Regards

If its any consolation we are also with the above company. We have a 3 year old van, but have been vanning and tenting for over 20 years. The policy seemed best value for us, having used others before. Of course as someone said earlier, you only find out what they are like when prroblems happen.

We are also with the above company as they we're the best value for us - i liked the £50 excess.  They have been great to deal with so far but as others have said the proof is in making a claim. Something I hope never to have to do.
