We are looking to buy a second hand caravan for around £3500-£4000.

It will be our 3rd caravan but since the last one we have a second child aged 16 months.

What layout would you recommend 2 doubles at either end or front double and bunks, also i will need to use the shower to hose down the little one.

Any help or advice much appreciated i am totally confused.

How old is the first?  If young go for a 4 berth (double and side diner/Bunks) with end wash room.

I personally love our layout.We have three children age 7,3 and 2 and we have the double at the from and then a side wash room with a sectioned off sleeping area withe put way bunk a the back.It just gives us more space and privacy to sit and chat at night at the front of the van whilst not disturbing the children if we watch tv or need to go to the loo and then during the day the extra space at hte back of the caravan allows us to all eat together too.It can a be a bit of a sacrifice with that smaller bathroom but I tend to prefer that than the children perhaps not settling at night and sometimes you just have to weigh all the plusses and minuses when you see a lovely caravan that you like.

It all depends on the age of the oldest child and if old enough for a top bunk.

We had a 5 berth, double at each end, but very small washroom so difficult to use shower. If oldest one came with us it was normally for a main holiday and he wanted to sleep in awning anyway.

So brought a 4 berth with side bunks and end washroom, loads of space to shower/wash and dress little ones and if they all come for a weekend we put the little one at the bottom of our bed, which i'm sure you could do with a toddler.

The better the onsite facilities the higher the fees and sometimes there are perfectly good sights, let down by the bad facilities, so an end bathroom can also save money.

Thanks for your help guys my kids are 1 and 4 thats why its so difficult to decide. 

It would useful to have a seperate shower for the kids but my eldest is 4 and i'm worried about sleeping on the top bunk.

So............... I am in a no win really lol.

Have you thought of top and tailing them on bottom bunk until 4 year old is big enough for top bunk. You could make some sort of bed gaurd to stop them falling out. Perhaps an old cot sid with a few well placed brackets or some sort of mesh with press studs that go under the bottom mattress and into the bed base and then press studs onto top bunk to hold in place.

thanks lisa good idea we have bed guards actually that we use at home they just slot under the matress.
