It's starting to annoy me a little with how long in advance you have to book a site with the Caravan Club...nipping off for the weekend is out of the question really.
Just wondered if its the same with the Camping and Caravanning Club?
I know that I should be really chuffed that loads of people have decided to take up this great way of having a holiday...suppose I'm just selfish
Can't comment on the CC&C as I am not a member but CC sites are very popular and despite adding sites to the network at regular intervals they can't keep pace with demand for some sites. I tend not to book more than a month ahead at a time and provided that you are willing to accept a second or third choice site I generally find I get booked in.

We've just joined the CC and I wandered into a site they have in the New Forest while we were down there just to have a look around. I was told that if you don't book the dates you want for the whole of the next summer when the prices come out in November, you won't get in.
As you say, nipping off for the weekend on impulse seems to be a thing of the past, more's the pity.
Don't think that there's the same problem with CC&C - possibly because they take a deposit when you book. I think a lot of the problem with CC is that people tend to book on spec and then cancel at the last minute (or not cancel at all, and just not turn up).
Looking on CC&C website, there seems to be more availability.
I suppose it depends on where you want to go, when you want to go and what the weather is like. We've just joined the CC having got our first van and booked 3 weeks ago to go to Leek, Staffs this weekend. Having just checked the availability for the site, they still have room this weekend.....but perhaps the weather forecast has something to do with that!!! Whereas my friends have been in the CC for years and have struggled continuously to get a weekend away at Chatsworth.
I suppose it becomes a victim of its own success. You know what you're getting with a CC site, which is very reassuring, therefore the sites are much sought after. The membership fee being what it is (which I think is very reasonable) I can't see anyone booking for a lengthy stay without joining because of the supplement you have to pay. Then having joined they continue to use the club sites.
Hi All, This is my first post. I am a member of both clubs. I have found that getting a booking with CC is quite difficult. I was trying to book a pitch at Black Knowle in Febuary for 2 weeks in August / Septmber. everything taken. I must admit never had a problem with the C&CC with bookings. On the other hand the new forest is a popular location for summer hols. hope this helps Mike
You could always use a C.L. for a weekend you can usally get into one of those. We have sometime booked a club site on Thursday and gone on Friday I make a phone call but not when the Children.are off school. Sites like Chatsworth are really popular and I remember when you had to pay a deposit to book and you still could not get in Rowntree Park ect. In fact I know someone that tried for over 2 years to get into Chatsworth and this was when you paid a deposit. It does not really make much difference if a deposit or not. Popular sites will be fully booked and not just C.C. sites try and gett into Sandy Balls and others.
If anyone is interested Chatsworth has 29 space this weekend,Clumber Park and Top Lodge also have spaces Rowntree Park York has spaces but you might need a boat.
Welcome to UKCS. It was Black Knowle we were looking at in the New Forest, and as you say, difficult to get in. It's the CC's only site in the Forest at the moment, although they're building a new one near Holmsley apparently, ready for next year
If you want a CC pitch at short notice for the weekend the best place to look is on the website, one of the options on the home page is to seek out late avaialability, there is lots for this weekend.

We stayed at Black Knowl for around 10 days last Summer. It is excellent and well worth booking in advance for.
I believe it is one of the CC sites which gets booked up in a matter of days from release of the bookings (in December) - as does Longleat! Actually, I think Longleat fills up in a matter of hours. Obviously, school holidays, bank holidays and weekends disappear first.
I can't comment about the CC except that there seems to be a common thread about weekends (and some members booking up every weekend as soon as facility opens). The C&CC (of which we are members) if booked more than 4 weeks in advance has never for us been a problem. Th C&CC do require a deposit that will be held in account if you have to cancel.
I'm a member of the CC and often have found it difficult to book the site I require, I believe if you had to put a deposit down you may find the sites no longer always booked on the dates you require. As with the CC&C policy, if you need to cancel the deposit can be kept in your account and used for the next time.
I would rather go on a CC site than a CC&C one, as the wardens allow you to freely choose a pitch, where the CC&C 'managers' lead you to a pitch of THEIR choice, very often due to the fact they have got mates coming down to take the best ones themselves. Also, you never know if you're going to be put with tents.. I think that is probably a key reason why CC sites fill up so quick!
